  1. Yep the HRRR has been awful for the metro today. Haven’t seen more then a stray flake or two so far and I work outside. Was never really expecting anything from this system.
  2. 3km Nam is giving me hope to see some flakes today. I guess MN gain is IL pain.
  3. I think you mean April 2018 which was incredible and the snowiest April ever at MSP. Last year was pretty good in my opinion, I believe we finished with over 70” However it has been really bad here this winter, especially watching the rest of the sub-forum cash in lately. Outside the sloppy 2” which transitioned into 0.75” of rain in late December, MSP hasn’t recorded an inch of snow since early December. Only a Trace has been recorded this month. 0.6” is the low bar and honestly the futility record feels in play.
  4. Selfishly for mby let’s go #18. Realistically though I’d be feeling really good if I were in northern Ohio. Looks like a really nice hit.
  5. Yet another storm that will miss MSP to the south. Really fun to track all these systems but would be better if I had some skin in the game.
  6. Looks like another whiff to the south. Going to have some deep ground frost with no snow insolating things before the deep freeze.
  7. Lol that’s pretty much what I’m expecting too.
  8. It was 32.2F when I left for work at 6am this morning. I got home a few minutes ago and we are down to 18.8F with a howling wind. Oh and I work outside.
  9. Today had the lowest daily record high in Minneapolis at 41. Needless to say we shattered this with a high of 46 today. Although we are far below average on snow season to date, and received over an inch of rainfall last week, the low sun angle is helping some snow hang around. Here’s the backyard a few hours ago.
  10. Received some backend snow, maybe 0.5” after an all day rainer Thursday. It did help freshen/brighten up the dilapidated snowpack. Soooo....hopped in the car drove 5 hours north and find myself in Lutsen Minnesota which received 24” from the storm and 28” last 7 days. Winter wonderland to say the least.
  11. 2.5” of snow which transistioned to rain at some point overnight. Misting and a slushy hell outside.
  12. I wish I had a good camera to setup for a time lapse imby tonight. 2-4” snow followed by 0.50” of rain and if I’m lucky 1-2” of snow to end it all. Yuck. Going to establish some good snowpack north of here however.
  13. Merry Christmas everyone! Looking like I’ll be in a bad position for the storm later this week, barring a moderate shift south. A few inches on the front end will be followed by rain and a dry slot with crashing temperatures and backend snow showers. Still better then most of the board I suppose, but only a county or two away from the 10”+ totals.
  14. Yeah it's getting interesting for my area right after Christmas. Could be in line for some impressive snows and winds, or slush and rain. Either way fun to have something imby to track.
  15. Finished with just a hair under 3" IMBY during the weekend event. The metro area really saw a tight snowfall gradient as the more intense banding fell apart making its way north, so I missed out on some of the more impressive totals. Marginal temperatures caused for a wet snow, and for a few hours we had light snow with an air temp of 32-34F that wasted away accumulation potential. 4" of snow on the ground and highs below freezing this week. While we are below average on snowfall this season, I'll take it with below average temperatures. At least we haven't had killer thaws with rain like other portions of the subforum. The lakes already have plenty of ice on them, went for a walk around Lake Nokomis this morning and there is a makeshift hockey rink setup, and a few guys ice fishing offshore. Fresh snow, grey cloudy day with occasional snow flurries and a north wind. Perfect.
  16. Ended up with around 2" last night. Officially 2.3" at MSP, which more then doubles our season total to date. This ended up over-preforming as the hi-res models kept spitting out an inch or less. If we can nudge the weekend system just a tad further north might be in line for a decent snowpack by early next week.
  17. Total accumulated snowfall this season. Central Minnesota, Central/Western Iowa and most of Indiana seem to be the early season losers. Hopefully we can squeeze out an inch tonight and thread the needle with the weekend system up here.
  18. Looks like rip city at my alma mater http://webcam.iowa.uiowa.edu/live/view.htm
  19. Hearing from friends of heavy sleet in southern Lake County IL right now. (Deerfield)
  20. Congratulations to everyone getting significant snowfall today! This has been a fun storm to track, and lurk on these forums while things evolved. My brother is sitting in Des Moines losing his mind as the system slides just south of him. Nothing but flurries where he’s at. Meanwhile up here in Minnesota it is cold and dry....at least the sun is poking out and will let me finish getting the yard ready for winter.
  21. The fiancée and I took a weekend trip up to Northern Minnesota. We hiked Eagle Mountain on the southern end of the Boundary Waters Wilderness, elevation 2301’ and the highest point between the Appalachians and Black Hills. All of the inland lakes are frozen over and there is 5-6” on the ground once you get a few miles inland and gain some elevation. Absolutely worth the 7 mile round trip hike. Incredible views and complete solitude.
  22. Winter weather is here so I’m done lurking and back to posting. First snow in the new house. Hoping to have a PWS up in the next few weeks. Sticking to trees, deck, grass but will melt by the afternoon.
