we need to get rid of concrete not add more
I sense a business opportunity for you. I’m investing in some funds that push towards that, so why not profit while trying to make a more stable climate?

Spring is a month away. When I grew up on SI in the 70's,nobody was worried about baseball field conditions In February
That was fifty years ago, sooo…

This is what I hated when I played little league. We should be expecting this every year.
Spring sucks in our area
Correct. He plays Fall Ball and it’s much more pleasant, since September and October are historically the driest times of year here.

Typical LA Nina with SNE getting the goods
Eh, of course we love snow, but even my sixth grader doesn’t want another snow day and doesn’t want his baseball fields muddied up. We’re getting into that time of winter for a very wet snow that melts into a field soaking mess.

Almost the entire state of MA is 6+ (10:1) on every model. So jealous. It's been almost 13 months since I saw 6" of snow here in Morris County. For some areas this will be #3 or 4 this winter alone. Spoiled fckers.
Dude, sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you. I live here, too, and we got hammered last year. You’re not going win them all.

think about what it would've been like on this forum in 1993-94 from December thru March lol
2 storms every week
30 total storms
It would have been batshit insane

Honestly if this was a just world all property of all fossil fuel companies would be seized and all their CEOs and board of directors would be clapped in handcuffs and sent to Guantanamo Bay for crimes against humanity and the planet. The International Court at The Hague should do that and send them to an international version of Guantanamo Bay, some deep dark pit from whence they are never heard from again.

I have told him this more then once but he just refuses to listen. Just ignore him, all he wants is attention and he is getting it.
It’s like an old married sitcom couple routine from when I was a kid. We could write the scripts for this in under ten minutes for each and every potential storm.

March is such a volatile month due to seasonal changes. If we can get any infusion of cold air there will be a very good chance for storminess.

Instead of irrelevant trivia like when zip codes came into being this is the interesting stuff we should be talking about, I've been waiting for some awesome results from Tokamak for YEARS and now finally here we are!
controlled nuclear fusion-- here we come!
I saw this. Really good news that’s being underreported.
(Also reconfirming my personal belief and bias that technology, market innovation, and positive actions (like tree planting) will help lead us to a more stable climate, rather than forcing lifestyle changes on an unwilling populace)

this was the big thundersnow snowstorm, it was an amazing daytime snowstorm went from bare ground to 8 inches in like 4 hours between 10 am and 2 pm
One of my all-time favorites.

The economy in the Tug region is rough. Just a heads up. I lived there for a year and lost my job because profit was too low. Also, Lowville itself gets the shaft quite often. Elevation is key.
As much as we love weather, you have to think about where you live and if there’s 1. Economic opportunities; 2. Medical facilities if you and your wife have children.
There’s nothing more stressful than having to take a child to the ER at night. We had to on the evening of the February 13, 2014 storm. That was awful. (He was luckily just fine!) Thankfully, we live fewer than two miles from Morristown Memorial.

Oswego would be my dream location
Have to think of economic opportunities, too.

My fiancee wants to look at houses in Connecticut this summer so we are gonna go and check it out. I'm trying to see how it would work if I can transfer or I have to start all over with my job.
Morris County is nice, too!

It seems like Jan 96/ PD2 type storms are getting more rare. Was Jan 2016 really good by you? That might be the last widespread great storm I remember (although our northern neighbors got screwed there).
Yes. 2’ at MMU. Last year was almost a carbon copy of that over me.
I just scrolled through my photo memories of the time they bullseyed right over me in 2016 (this should be hanging in the Louvre):

I’m going to give you a prediction about this winter. It’s going to be cold, it’s going to be dark, and it’s going to last you for the rest of your lives.

wasnt that big for us on the south shore....I think 10-12 inches at JFK?
this storm was better for us
Interesting how that goes, eh? Like a mirror image. The storm the other day was not memorable here, but it was more than 2’ last year. So it goes.

the NFL can't lose enough lawsuits to make me happy.
Now, if only MLB and MLBPA could get their heads out of their nether regions.

Thank you for this. It made me screenshot this to text my dad and then have a follow-up call to reminisce over the good years.

A major SSW during the 1st week of March would be a complete waste for the snow lovers. There is a big lag between a legit SSW and a tropospheric response, usually a matter of weeks after….the 2018 one that happened in mid February took almost 3 weeks to reflect down to the surface. An early March SSW wouldn’t take effect until late March and by then winter is over and done, all she wrote, fat lady singing, say goodbye and goodnight, it’s over Johnny, bring down the curtain, game over for everyone south of central and northern New England at that point, not to mention it would destroy spring (late March, April, May) as cold, miserable and rainy

Normal late in the season stuff. Every year, I never understand the battles over things we literally have no control over.
