Yeah, the JMA seasonal is going for this look in December. MJO 5-6 La Niña standing wave combined with MJO 8-1 region forcing in South America creating a -NAO pattern. While these seasonal outlooks usually aren’t the most reliable, the EPS has the -NAO to at least start December. So it will be interesting to see how the rest of the month turns out.

Overnight. You won’t notice it on this screenshot, but this guy patiently waiting with my trash is watching is buddy clamber up one of the maples between my neighbor and me.

I do not advocate hunting, but you can't ignore it was a way of life, and for some, still is. What some don't understand is the hunters and environmentalists want the same thing: open space and a sustainable animal population.
Im not a hunter, but hunters are the original conservationists. It’s also a far more ethical way to procure meat versus industrial farming.

Feb 2006?
Probably, but I can’t remember. My 11 year old self would be amazed that I can think of so many otherwise.

Does anyone know some 5”/hr or higher snowfall rates we’ve had in the region? maybe March 2018 #4, February 2013, and January 2011? Are there any others?
In MMU, maybe January 2021; March 6, 2018; Maybe January 2016; December 30, 2000; February 8, 1994.
I’m sure others around this wide region could say Boxing Day.

this is absolutely loaded
everything is there for a significant storm: strong +PNA ridge, anticyclonic wave breaking in Canada forced by the -NAO, anomalous 50/50, and a potent shortwave
can't really look any better a week out, let's see what happens
How much for Philly

I believe the 65” in 2014 was the greatest November event for east of Lake Erie. They have pure rocket fuel this time with the record 55° lake temperatures from the recent record warmth. The lake should be in the upper 40s by now. So it will just come down to how long the band stalls in any given location.

We should go throw some ice cubes in the water on Bondi Beach.

The governor of NJ is getting a lot of anger for re-instating the bear hunt. And he deserves the criticism, especially after he promised to ban it as a campaign pledge. He's using flawed data to say that bear populations have gone up a lot, as the Sierra Club pointed out, the higher reports of bears were because people were home because of the pandemic and as soon as they started going back to work the reports went back down again. He even said that if there aren't enough bear kills (read there aren't enough bears to kill) he's going to do another bear hunt in December! This is awful. People told him that if he really thinks there are too many bears there are other ways of dealing with them other than violence. To be honest there are WAY too many people and they live in wilderness areas where they don't belong and they're dirty and careless with their trash-- those are the real problems. Not the bears! But bears don't vote so they are the ones who have to suffer.
I disagree with you on this. We live in a suburban part of Morris County, right by MMU, and they’re all around. It’s the most I’ve seen in seven years. We get notices from our kids’ schools that outdoor activities at the schools get curtailed in October and November due to bear sightings.
I’m not a hunter, I’m not a pro-gun person, but it’s a good conservation technique if they do it for a few days.
The photo is from down the street.

Where I do agree with you is where people choose to live. While you should have the absolute freedom to live where you want, you also should have the responsibility to know what comes with it. I think that’s even more true in the desert southwest; of course there are water problems, there’s no water there.

I know that based off of recent posts in this subforum that we live in a tropical/desert biome but I truly do enjoy this chilly weather in what would never be a chilly weather time of the year.
I find our climate to be on par with Pensacola.

i’m in Westchester and every day that you were 28 we were about 35. Close but no cigar. Forget the city. They have plants in bloom
Bonkers. All of our leaves are down, too. This always amazes me.
On the flip side, though we’re not Newark, it gets very toasty here on dry, sunny days… and then drops like a rock at night.

waiting for this first freeze this year is worse than waiting for election results in America
Although Belleayre did turn on the snow guns, so there is that…
Where are you guys? Never ceases to amaze me the wide range here. We’ve been 28° or lower many times already this year.

NJ is 2.9 degrees above pre-industrial temps according to what I was looking at earlier.
While we don’t live in Maine neither do we live in South Carolina, historically NJ was not a particularly warm state. It’s all relative of course but climate change has significantly altered what we perceive as normal, especially here.
Even just reviewing the daily averages for this area will help to reveal how off the mark we’re getting.
Average low for my area right now is 34 degrees, and the daily low temperatures seem to be one of the worst impacted by the overall warming.
It’s hard to articulate without emotional rambling, but I just find it to be upsetting.

I like hot and DRY in the summer, I hate humidity above all else.
Winter should be snowy though.
I want summer in summer and autumn in autumn and my baseball played on grass not fieldturf.

Perhaps this is a novel idea but you can go outside even if it’s cold.

There is a chance that I could be joining the north and west of NYC posting crew sometime next year. The cost of living is getting too expensive here on Long Island. I would really appreciate any feedback on reasonable rents and nice communities north and west of NYC. A 55 and over community with lower monthly expenses would be ideal for me. Would even be open to parts of CT. So let me know some of the better places to live in your area. The posters on this forum feel like and extended family to me. So it would be great having you guys as neighbors.
Morris County / Morristown / Morris Plains… Midtown Direct access in many spots, and some very nice downtowns. Some nice 55+ in Denville and other spots, too. You’ll get to be North and West of Town.

Agree. Nov cold is usually a waste
Remember a few years back it was like 17° on Thanksgiving? What a waste.
