  7. Snowing here at 33 degrees. Dusting on the deck. Let's hope everyone get's a great storm in terms of totals and no one loses power or has any damage. Enjoy all!
  8. already a lot of moisture being drawn from the gulf and the main storm is not even starting to come together http://www.intellicast.com/National/Radar/Current.aspx?animate=true
  9. A foot of wet snow in the trees after we just had 3 inches of rain here in Westchester and trees weak already from the winds and rain. Add 20-30 mile per hour winds with gusts up to 40 there could be worse damage than the last storm.

    Snow/Slop Storm 2/17-18 Obs

It is and has been dumping here almost as soon as the storm started. 30 degrees here. Up to 6 inches on the grass and 4 inches on the pavement. Forecast for up to 8 inches here if this keeps going at this rate we will break that in the next 2 hours or so! Beautiful snow just coming straight down.

No I did not take this picture but what I saw tonight was similar-- a full ring of white around the moon but without colors. I understand that colors may be rare but a white ring around a fullish moon is quite common before a storm from my experience. I have seen colors however, but not tonight. It is a beautiful sight especially because you know that snow is coming after it.

Here in Ossining. What I am describing is a ring around the moon of white light. There are not colors but a white ring that happens before a storm when there are a lot of water particles in the atmosphere-- like this attachment but without the colors. .

The moderators can choose to delete this post if they want. But I wanted to just share my observations as a weather enthusiast who loves snow and has lived through some great storms. So, I am excited just like you all are about the prospects of this storm. I appreciate all that you all share and have learned a lot from your posts. I cannot give the scientific analysis that you all give but just going outside right now and seeing what is happening I think that we are going to have a nice storm. There is a beautiful moon bow happening right now and it smells like snow and there is the muffle of sound that comes before a storm. I think this storm may be quite impressive. I don' t think up here in northern westchester we are going to have amazing snow totals, but it will be powerful. I hope all enjoy this storm and there are no power outages and damage from it. Especially with the extreme cold coming after the storm. Enjoy! Mother nature is awesome to watch and I enjoy watching and learning from you all as we witness it.
