Sorry to ask what might be a dumb question, but is this the last of the colder weather we are bound to see until the fall? Just curious.

Yes and maybe until next December. The law of averages ensures there will be long-lasting heat.

The virus has created it's own cold air nobody is out breathing their hot breath

It's happening again but for different reasons. Global warming is not canceled sorry guys.

The thing that this crisis has really laid bare is how deeply people mistrust institutions and government.  People really think Larry Hogan’s motives are something other than public health.

There's bad actors everywhere. There's sociopaths everywhere ... most psychotic apes are more capitalist than otherwise. (not to disparage the ape)

Primate's are highly intelligent and compassionate but somehow despite our IQs and affluence we can't do basic logic. The few shouldn't ruin the show for the many.

Too many  think of any type of life as an expendable statistic. Unfortunately that type of thinking is likely global. As always ......

It's too far away and too abstract for people but it's very real. However death anxiety is a problem as well but it's not normal to die from nuclear bombs.

as a country it’s pretty clear we are ok with north of 50k deaths per month if it means being able to re-open the local TGI Friday’s for in house dining

Truth but we also are the only country to date to use nuclear bombs on civilian populations. It's kind of expected and anything otherwise would be an anomaly.

Considering there have been 0 deaths in VA under the age of 20, sounds like a smart move.

Asymptomatic spread. The most lethal kind of spread possible.

You better stock up on TP to fortify your bunker.. the rest of us will get on with our lives

The TP is gone now. My options are limited.

Massive decline in VA hospitalizations the past week..

Massive decline in cognition ... lockdowns are working and we want to let the progress slip away. All of that time wasted.

Yeah because I didn't get enough wind on Thursday. Let the severe stuff sink just south. That's what I expect to be the case.

You actually don't want this? This is an incredible setup that should not be squandered in these parts. These are not really our caliber ... very rare to have the lows pass this close in the Spring. They usually go to our north or west.

Should I thank or curse the rain I’m getting right now?  It lets me do nothing but it prevents me from power washing.

It might of saved 2 lives in the year 2127. We will perhaps never know but we are working with tight margins.

I can retire in almost a year but anchor babies will keep me around. Want to move NW to see snow but can only move far enough to stay in my kids school pyramid

Nursing homes will be in short supply when you are elderly and you will not regret having kids. You will have less fossil fuel slaves working for you but less is more.

12z Euro 850 temp anomalies are 5 to 15 degrees below normal Days 8 to 10... nice :axe:

12z EPS mean even colder... -10 to -15 850 temp anomalies day 6 to day 10

Yes but take a look at the absurd Greenland blocking. Where was this all winter? This kind of pattern would ruin next winter too. You can be sure.

Earth is mad and we should just accept our punishment. Got it. Thanks for your input.

ETA: the world is what we make it.  Your attitude is a defeatist self fulfilling prophecy.

Why wouldn't you accept it? The Earth is our provider .... better call Elon Musk for advice. Giving us false hope. There is your pessimist.

"It is what what we want it to be" LOL

Maybe if civilization keeps trying we will get it right eventually. The definition of insanity is expecting a different result. There is no easy answer other than people being aware of the inputs and outputs of the ecological systems which sustain us. That requires time and generational overturning. Sadly we are in short supply of these things.

Fundamentally the distancing between humanity and the natural order is very large in cities. It's a lethal positive feedback loop. That's how we got to this point. We are all living on the most wretched of plantations. Not much has changed.

Yeah I understand that, I just don’t understand what point you’re trying to make.

There  is no point to life. It's just live and let live. That's my biggest concern with civilization. The collective delusion that we are on some path towards a "greater" future when the present is "good enough".

It is what it is might make a decent bumper sticker but it’s a pretty shitty policy stance ON ANYTHING

Let's lockdown for 1 year and crash industrial civilization. It's not even possible ... people need to work because we would starve otherwise. The cities are ****ed.

It seems fate has made it's decision and the powers that be (nature) does not approve of our presence.

  17. Just now, DCTeacherman said:

What do you mean by that?

World Wars, diseases, etc have been with us since the beginning of civilization. People didn't meltdown they just pulled through. I agree that the stakes are higher now but it is what it is.
