Yeah I get it.  I just like to stand up for the Ops teams when I see it.  The operations guys at all of the mountains are essentially exactly the same before and after company changes.  We all just have passion for snow and running ski areas.  The other stuff you mention is more company level for sure.

For sure I didn’t mean for it to come off that way. I feel for the employees who have to go through unsure ownership changes. I have good friends on ops teams at Ragged and Killington and all those guys at all the mountains work there ass off....I’d know I did it for a few years until I had to find something that paid better :(

There’s just not a whole lot you can do with 40”, especially when that’s really never happened to them before...it’s not like they are prepared like Bachelor or Mammoth etc

To be fair, I chatted with some colleagues in Operations down there and they could only get 1 lift running today due to the intensity of the snowfall.  Chairs were getting stuck elsewhere around bullwheels and it sounded like a complete cluster.  I mean it snowed 40+ inches in like 10 hours.  I don’t think we would’ve been any better at Stowe, that’s just a crippling snowfall, ski area or not.  Especially when most of your employees can’t get there because it’s snowing 8” an hour at 6-8am.

Ya I guess I can’t blame operations. I’m just fed up with vail with there lack of communication and commitment. Hell they tooted the horn for weeks they didn’t want to open wildcat without more terrain to spread people out with covid, only for them to open with one trail. Like ya it was about ‘covid’ and not the ‘money’...sure thing Vail.

I'm still dumbfounded lol. That band.

I’ve been looking around on social media of photos in that area. It’s just insane. Looks like those photos I see of those high alpine ski towns in the alps of Europe that are just buried. Okemo seems like they got 40+...to bad Vail had to buy them looks like they are doing a terrible job of opening up terrain.

24.5"  Final.   Measured several areas.   This is with no clearing.

Are these 35-44" reports from people that have not cleared and are measuring in non wind areas?  Wish we had a Utube video of someone taking these measurements so we can see exactly where they are in relationship to other objects etc.  Just seems so remarkable for a short time.  I was slightly north of the death band earlier this morning.

The twitter video posted earlier is pretty convincing.

Hawaii ought to have a record listed.  Both Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea get occasional snow, sometimes a lot, and the latter peak supports a ski club!

There’s a storm max record of 35” at Mauna Loa observatory in the article I linked! Theres an old snowboard video I have of someone gapping over the road up there after an unexpected storm.

A friend there says the skiing is actually bad, too much snow.  Get stuck everywhere.

Ya definitely saw people struggling on some of the mountains webcams. Got to know the mountain and stick to the steep spots on days like today. I feel so bad watching beginners and intermediate riders on powder days get stuck in the flats and choose terrible lines.

A dangerous and historic storm will continue for some areas
through the mid afternoon hours. The highest snowfall report in
New Hampshire as of noon time was 38 inches in Grantham. The
New Hampshire State record for a single storm is 49.5 inches.
Have updated snowfall totals for southwest Maine and central New
Hampshire. Extreme snowfall rates to continue for another 2 to

49.5” the record or is it 56”....hmmm either way here’s the ultimate weenie article I keep bookmarked.

Lol at adding in the purple shades up to 96”. Storm of my dreams right here where everything came together. I’ve been waiting 42 years for a 30 incher. I may get emotional. :weenie:

Congrats. And I gave you crap yesterday about being on the northern fringe zone and being grumpy about it haha....can’t wait to get up there,  hopefully tomorrow if I can skip out of work. I’ve had a few storms tickle 30” when I was in Methuen for 20 years, we can spread the love every so often.

    Temple will be buried

Funny, I was just talking with a friend yesterday about heading out there and doing a little backcountry riding. Anyone have recent knowledge of temple or how overgrown it is? They should do real well. Hoping the goods make it far enough north to Ragged mountain  as well. No work Friday so I’ll be heading somewhere...

I could see snow day for elementary school kids....but high school? The only playing in snow that high school kids do is smoking dope and blowing donuts in empty parking lots. Maybe farting around on their old Indy if they're lucky enough to have one.

I mean I was definitely out playing in the snow in high school still....maybe I was smoking dope while doing so, but who’s asking? My mom used to try and hide me keys when I got my first car because she knew she couldn’t stop me from driving to Ski Bradford to go snowboard on snow days.

Radar presentstion is looking juicy, I wonder if the NWS puts up there new radar page today for the storm or holds off.

Early December last year was decent...17" or so in that one event with about 27" for the month. Then it went downhill. The past two years have been under-performing but most winters are decent with good latitude for SWFEs and great coastal blizzards. Being close to the water can hurt sometimes but not always. Where in Hampton are you? I grew up in N. Hampton.

I wasn’t here in early December last year so I missed that. I was stuck in Providence for weeks due to work and the winter was dookie after that. I can hit OC studios with a snowball from my place in Hampton on Ocean Blvd though.

As a snow lover it’s almost like I keep moving to less snowy climates. Like I dipped out right after graduating high school in ‘07 to be a ski bum in Steamboat CO and boy did I get lucky that I feel like I should never complain again, but the weenie in me always does.

Edit: having said that I never lost my appreciation for an epic coastal in New England. The best Nor’easters are on par with anything I’ve seen out west and they hold a special place in Meteorology.

It’s been great since you moved north because often what is good for you is also good for me so your are like a local met for me!

Haha agreed! I think I moved to the seacoast not long after the whole 31” debacle and my jackpot in Methuen took over his measurement in Wilmington which I fully trusted...but I got a kick out of it on the spotter page.

Still have yet too see a warning criteria event on the NH seacoast and I’m thinking of moving north once my lease is up end of January. Still holding out hope this delivers up here.

  13. Finally looks like a got a chance of a decent storm here on the coast....since I moved in last December I've measured under a foot of snow total in Hampton. Quite the difference from my old spot but last year was last year....enough said on that sad winter already. Really hoping the mountains don't get screwed out of this. They desperately need the snow to open new terrain but these cold temps will help snowmaking efforts tremendously.

Also @DTWXRISK I appreciate your insight and posts. The more insight from mets here the better, but seriously what's up with the space bar in your posts man? I am genuinely curious.

I had about 20" in Wilmington, but I think my current spot in Methuen had like 30".

Pretty sure I measured 28” on the west side of town. Used to have a good yardstick photo of that one....but some spots on the other side of Rt 213 and into Haverhill/Bradford had some 30+” reports. Ski Bradford with the jackpot that day lol.

Funny....350' elevation up here did nothing...I drove up the "hill" about an hour ago..

Haha I never noticed a difference in snow totals elevation wise in my 20+ years of living in Methuen. Every once in a while there was a pretty sick gradient between the west side of town bordering Dracut and the east side bordering Haverhill though. I used to always take the dog up old Methuen ski hill during some marginal storms looking for a difference in snow with a little elevation but never found it.

Our temp fall slammed shut about 1.5 hours back here in Ayer ...

Fell from 40 to 32 and change but has been 'frozen' at that 32.5 .. .

We have no icicles off any metallic objects and water is dripping - it's seems we are accumulating at nearly the melt rate and have been for the past hour, as vis has been 1/3 or so the whole way and we have 2.25 unchanged.

Maybe a dynamic butt kick to plumb that 31.5 clincher but for now..we await that meso band -

Friend in Westford basically said the same thing. Said it was absolutely pounding out but little in the way of new accumulation. Got to think that changes quick as the sun sets as well.

Oh yeah im not complaining...I’m doing well I probably have 2.5-3...im weird I never measure. I’m in a good spot for this part and possibly the pivot and rot, we shall see

Speaking from experience patience can be key there. It’s tough to watch everyone rip to your SW but the best is yet to come for SE NH.
