  1. I would assume that at this point the hotel would include the expected $600 fee in the contract for the event, if they were not already doing so. If customer doesn't agree to pay the fee, no event.
  2. Then there is the wind to consider. When we lived in Peacham, the coldest night we had was right after a frontal passage and the wind was up. It prevented the cold air just sinking below us like it would on calm nights. We quickly got to about to -28. On a calm morning, we would often be 7 to 10f warmer than just half mile away where the elevation flattened out about 300' lower than our house. So many variables. edit: and so many typos
  3. For those of you concerned by the cool morning, rest assured that the Euro and GFS are in agreement of no snow the next 10 days. While I have not tracked the GFS performance in this regard, Euro was dead on re July snowfall. It is on a roll!
  4. Something like this? https://www.harborfreight.com/4375-watt-max-starting-extra-long-life-gas-powered-generator-epa-iii-63962.html
  5. Probably off base but are they moths with wings closed?
  6. Part of the issue could have been where to send and what the needs would be in surrounding states. There was a fair amount of uncertainty about how this would all play out and where the biggest needs would be.
  7. Green Mountain Power in Vermont is down to 223 customers without power. Hopefully they can help with restoration for folks down south. https://outages.greenmountainpower.com/
  8. I have no idea which way it has to be flipped as I am almost always using a camera. Such is life in areas with very spotty cell coverage. It seems to me as long as the lens faces towards what you want to capture that the upsidedown issue auto corrects later.
  9. No worries, seemed more fun then saying "bump"
  10. Upright is a natural way to hold the phone so I can understand it happening as it does not seem to be lessening. It thought for sure when the guy focused on how much the wires were shaking that he was going to move At least the trees were all upwind from the lines.
  11. When we lived in Bethlehem, there was some controversy in town because a nice old lady in town was baking brownies and leaving them out for the bears. They developed a tremendous sweet tooth and were pests around town for awhile. It took a lot of persuading to get her to stop.
  12. Those are Great North Woods Murder Cicadas. They emerge every 17 years and have been known to each through screen windows in their prey. They prefer to feed on roadkill, meterologists and small dogs. In 1952, the sky darkened over Buxton and they were seen devouring a cocker spaniel in less that 4 minutes, leaving behind only its collar. RIP Whiskey.
  13. Two immediate thoughts while watching that video: 1. Landscape! Stop holding the phones vertically people! 2. Why are you underneath the powerlines! Agggghh! (I realize this was not Ginx filming but rather whoever did- I assume it was this Scott P)
  14. 52f here. A couple of days ago it felt like maybe the back of summer had been broken. It definitely seems that way now. Chamber weather for days to come. Soon the leaves will need to be peeped at, I will get in a panic to get outdoor chores down prior to the freeze up, the GFS will flip from having a 942 hurricane at the end of every run to having a blizzard coming just inside the benchmark to finish each cycle, and someone will set up a thread for this year's Grinch storm.
  15. Don't forget the snow Sandy left in WV.
  16. More than understandable. You guys have it bad for tree damage these past few months. I hope everyone came out physically unscathed and "just" property damage! Did your fence come out of it unscathed this time?
  17. Was the wind's strength why the camera was always moving around? I was getting dizzy watching this. Wind for us maxed at about what I think is shown in this video. We were lucky and did not lose power at all which was surprising as prone as we are to power interruptions. Only blow downs were some tomato plants. (Same as with Irene interestingly enough) Even my broken maple which is snagged on other trees remained in its mostly upright position.
  18. He is in Tolland- they lose their power on a weekly basis. They probably will be without power and grilling everything in their freezers by noon.
  19. That would probably cause damage in Tolland.
  20. Sadly I was driving and did not have a camera with me. When we used to live in Peacham our house had long range views to the east down towards the CT River Valley and rainbows were a common sight for us. Now we are in a tight, mostly wooded valley so the trees usually block them at the house.
  21. Last night on the drive home from Rutland, I hit a downpour just to the east of Killington. After a couple of minutes I was out of it and the sun was soon out. The storm was going east at about the same rate I was. I was driving looking at one of the most intense colored rainbows I have seen lately. It was seldom a full arc but fantastic. The drive was beautiful with the late evening sun, the low white clouds in parts of the dark green forested valleys and the intensive contrast of the dark storm, spots of blue skies. 35 miles of bliss, the rainbow was still going when I got home. Signs of some washouts on the dirt roads near home and miraculously the broken maple caught up above the parking area at my house was still held by the other trees. I need that hurricane to come and save me some work.
  22. We have a colonial with a center staircase. With a window fan in one upstairs window opposite the front door, the cool air really works its way in for us. The elevation, early shade, and early sunset really help prevent the house getting too hot as well. So far that week in early July 2018 has easily been the worst in our 4 years in this house.
