  1. Quite a lot, apparently. From https://www.space.com/spacex-starlink-satellites.html A Starlink satellite has a lifespan of approximately five years and SpaceX eventually hopes to have as many as 42,000 satellites in this so-called megaconstellation.
  2. Interesting things for when there's nothing to track: -from 24° to 29° between 9 and 11PM -MWN from South PWM around 11AM today -'boards getting some action this afternoon
  3. Stout pack... mine only went from 5" to 4" today. From 6" yesterday. Been nearly 3 weeks since new snow >1".
  4. Yes, very similar here. While I appreciate the slow melt, I am also at the point where I want it refreshed or gone. It's useless as is.
  5. I had 6" at 7PM and 5" this morning (officially - obviously varies around the yard). The pack here is incredibly dense. I'm thinking my 7AM obs tomorrow is at 3".
  6. I know you don't need a firearm - when people snap, they snap...see Cohasset, Duxbury - but having a firearm handy, as everyone seems to for some reason these days, sure makes it convenient.
  7. yep. Right over my friggin' head about an hour ago. Covert operation, too. Nothing showed on FlightRadar.
  8. Here's a great summary from yesterday's arraignment. In terms of FB, she posted a ton to various pregnancy/new mom groups - not looking for support, per se, rather here's my story/look at me. She appeared to be incredibly selfish, and self conscious. Hyper obsessed with fitness (going for a jog while in labor is an insane move) and appearance (nose job). The kids were getting in the way of her life. Here's a few but that Twitter account is a solid record of everything to date.
  9. Much like convective lines in the summer, this ones falling apart on approach to the coast.
  10. unfathomable. even if you don't have kids. literally gut wrenching. PPP or not, she's a monster.
  11. I don't claim to be one. And I'm not sure why I need to slow my role on a weather forum banter thread. Only responding based on new information. Take a quick scroll through some of the posts she made to various groups on facebook. Listen to the 911 call, and especially listen to her arraignment today.
  12. The more that people dig and find stuff, the more it's clear she wasn't exceptionally normal. Lady was tapped long before her latest pregnancy. And she didn't "just snap" that night - shit was planned ahead of time.
  13. My pack is a literal glacier. Between 5" and 9" in spots, my official depth is 7" (at least) and has been since the last significant snowfall on 1/23. There must be 4" of liquid in the pack. We had an 1" on 1/25, then again on 1/31, but my depth has been locked since the 23rd. That event did include 2" of pure sleet, though. The nearly 3" of rain that fell on the 1/25 only brought the pack from 12" to 10", and eventually to 8" the following day.
  14. There are some roads nearby where there are fields on both sides, the blowing snow has accumulated enough to cause slide offs if folks aren't paying attention.
  15. -11.2° Flashlight wellness check on the chickens indeed showed signs of life.
  16. The rare "Heavy Sea Spray Warning" has been issued. Let's take down some commuter ferries!
  17. Agree. The real concern is that many students don't even have proper clothing for 20 degrees, let alone -20 wind chills.
  18. You do realize that's about visibility, not about snow amounts, right? There roads up there are akin to South Dakota, not SNE.
  19. Just got an email from our super - they will not be cancelling school. Discussed with surrounding superintendents and all are not cancelling. South Portland & Portland have a ton of walkers, so I can understand it for the more suburban communities, but for PWM that makes no sense.
  20. my kid does the same shit - stashes a snowball at the end of winter every year. weenies. Yes, overall wettest month here since Jul '21 with 8.22" of total liquid (24.0" snow). Looks like all eastern areas were pretty wet. At least Maine had some snow come out of it.
  21. Very true. I have buff and lavender orpingtons, def cold hardy...but I haven't even touched single digits this year so they're in for a shock at first. I think I'd put them in my garage before a heating lamp, too risky for fires.
  22. Didn't know that it can harm. Thanks. Ridge vent is open for ventilation, otherwise they're protected. Shouldnt be too breezy there.
