    For all the despair going on about this winter so far, just remind yourself what it was like in December 2015. Yeah, yeah we got the blizzard in January, but it's not like anyone knew or expected that at the time, or even necessarily thought we'd be heading into a decent pattern the next month.

    A moderator's job is NEVER done, eh?! (BTW, off-topic...but the other month I was able to see Galaxy Quest in a theater over in Rockville!! Pretty cool! They were showing classic films from the '90s or something and I happened to see that was one they were putting on!!)

    I'm not quite into daily model checking yet...but perhaps close, especially if something appears on the horizon! I definitely have been coming in here more lately, as I usually do as winter approaches.

    As a fellow Ramblin' Wreck, sorry that Tech lost badly to that "other" GA school located over in Athens today! But perhaps not unexpected really. I am glad Michigan beat The Ohio State "University" soundly, though! (that's as opposed to "The" Ohio State University haha!)

    Haha!! That reminds me of an NHC forecast discussion for tropical storm Kirk some years ago (as it was dissipating) that said, "Kirk will not live long and prosper..."!!

    Only 71. What happened. Feel awful. Oh man that is sad news. Reminds me of last year, when Dick Goddard in Cleveland, OH passed away. He was the long-time meteorological icon in the area, well respected and very good. I grew up watching him on the news each day. I imagine Doug Hill was very similar for those around here as well.

    Ding, ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! Yes, the obvious solution (in addition to paid time off and sick leave) would be paid HOLDAY leave for major holidays!!

    Totally agree as well! I thought it was bad years ago when an occasional store was open on Thanksgiving Day...and then as you say, more and more have been doing so since. I refuse to do any kind of shopping on Thanksgiving or Christmas. I do everything I can to have what I need (for baking, cooking, etc.) beforehand. And if I happen forget something (usually really minor anyhow), well then I figure that's too bad, I still won't go out and get it on the holiday itself.

    I used a 100-400mm lens at 400mm with a 1.4x adapter on my Canon, so that gave an effective 560mm focal length. Didn't rotate it or anything, that's how it was visible with the naked eye as well. That lens is a beast...like 3.5 pounds...but it's awesome! And thank goodness for image stabilization!
