Hahaha! I remember in northeast Ohio growing up, the weather line (NWS forecast) was 931-1212. And the TV-8 (CBS) forecast from the famed local meteorologist Dick Goddard was 881-0880! I can still hear his voice on the weather segment of the local news, he'd say for updates to call "eight eight one...zero...eight eight zero" (with the pauses and all in his voice!). Yeah, I still remember those damned numbers! Sadly, Dick Goddard passed away in 2020...he really was a legend in the area and very good. Especially when it came to lake effect snow. I had a weather radio about the same time, in the early '80s! Listened to it all the time, awaiting the zone forecasts (everything was on a loop of course...observations, weather summary, zone forecasts, etc.). And I even still remember the time number from where I was growing up, 471-1212. With the automated voice saying "At the tone, the time will be..." every 10 seconds!!

I totally agree! Something about waking up with a completely fresh pack of snow. As if magic happened overnight. I also of course like observing it while awake too, during the day, etc. Just don't eat yellow snow!! And especially not brown snow!!

Nice! You should really take the highest amount where any snow is touching the ruler...so actually more like 4.3 (yes, rounding from 4.25!!!)! 3.0" where I'm at. Nice little event!

Jebman, wishing for warmer temperatures and higher dewpoints?!?! What is the world coming to? This. For most people (even those who like snow), the "worst" case scenario would potentially cause serious travel issues, closures, etc. I also think most people might not be as familiar with what exactly a percentile (like 90th) necessarily means. Not much different than CWG using the terms "boom" or "bust" in addition to expected amount.

Haha, no kidding! Just imagine all the Ph.D. dissertations that can be written on various newly named disorders!!

I've certainly done that for the big events, like Feb. 2010 and Jan. 2016. Would go out several times and doze off in-between! I often wondered if the neighbors would call the cops about seeing this person wandering around in the snow with a camera and a yardstick.

Yes...a "WSW". Current indications are very deep accumulations of bulls**t are imminent and occurring. Be careful driving and walking around outside, make sure the waders are pulled up! We should hit CWG's boom scenario with ease. There should be a large region of enhanced BGZ (bovine growth zone), so banding is likely.

I believe @high risk explained this type of plot the other day. As I recall, it represents the total snow depth change through the time period (in this case through 54 hours from 12Z today). It's not the same as what TT and other sites show, which gives the snow depth of the event itself. Keeping in mind that today and tomorrow there will surely be a decent amount of snow melt (being above freezing), I can see a net of zero or not very much considering that. But that's not indicative of how much falls for this particular event by itself. Of course, we may "only" see less than an inch or 1-2", but you get the idea.

True. It is a valid piece of current guidance that is used by NWS WFOs, not some off or old model that nobody uses.

Yeah, looking a bit more closely there is some separation with the pumped-up PNA ridge where you could sneak a shortwave through. And I certainly wouldn't kick a clipper out of the sack either, LOL! Definitely would be cold. I was being a bit snarky with my "chilly" comment but it would be nice to have a couple of wintry feeling weeks (and not just cold/dry if we can manage it!).

Trough might be a little too far east, but definitely a chilly look! Maybe clippers?
