  1. it didn't just dry slot the skies brightened lol, people think the storm is over and are out snowblowing.
  2. snow ended here about an hour ago so I figured I would measure it....14" no snow no sleet, nada outside for the past hour except for high winds and blowing snow, 29 degrees.
  3. Visibility is a lot higher now, there's still some snow, with a lot of wind and a quick burst of sleet from to time. Skies are also brighter now than they were before. 28 here...winds out of the NE gusting to 35
  4. Thanks- but if the 700mb low is east of you wouldn't that mean that the surface low is too far to the east? Or is it a case of you want the 700mb low to be only a little to the west of the surface low? And so if the 700 and 500 lows were to the east of the surface low, that would be bad since the storm would be weakening? Vertically stacked lows sound a lot like an occlusion.
  5. sounds like it's based on precip rates so between bands it sleets and in the bands its snow. by the way sleet is still considered snow in measurements so if sleet is accumulating it's still considered an accumulating snowfall lol.
  6. interesting anatomy of these storms, would this kind of thing not happen if the storm was vertically stacked? also, are there ever cases where these "assistant lows" (the 700 low for example) are to the southeast of the main low?
  7. you're right it literally just got here, but the visibility is still zero outside lol. Must be snow and sleet mix
  8. unfortunately there is definitely sleet here now, I hear it pinging hard on the window air conditioner I never took out lol
  9. I dont know man, dont temps usually drop during very heavy snow? you usually get mixing when precip lightens up and then temps rise.
  10. I think along the same lines however I remember the same criticisms being made for no hurricane warnings for Sandy, granted this system is going to have much less of an impact than Sandy did.
  11. those are just approximations there has been zero sleet here with this storm and it's a white out outside
  12. suspect most of the storm will be over by then, thats how it usually happens with these two day storms, most of the action happens on the first day
  13. you should make that your sig so you dont have to say it so often lol
  14. yes it's academic, sometimes the areas with a little mixing actually get the most snow, that makes it well worth it
