    I mean I don't know what else can be done-- 1 PM was basically when the last flake fell. It's difficult to monitor something 24/7. They probably take a measurement every 6 hours and then when the storm ends. I know they sometimes make bad measurements, and this could be one, but I don't think it's because it was done too late. I looked at the radar and the snow ended right around 1 PM.

    But the snow ended here around 1 PM so it was right on time. What were the airport totals, Chris? I noticed the snow started melting here at 1:30 lol This really was like a spring storm.

    It didn't threaten it actually came out and most of the snow on the trees has already fallen off or melted and we have large puddles on the streets now. An hour after it got done snowing, a significant amount of snow has already melted lol.

    One thing everyone should always remember is that the snow to liquid ratio is usually 10:1, in other words, the typical variability of a rainstorm is magnified 10x in a typical snowstorm. So a difference between half an inch of rain and a full inch of rain becomes the difference between 5 inches of snow and 10 inches of snow. Which is why when people hear or see a forecast for 5-10 inches of snow they shouldn't assume they'll get 10 inches. It could just as easily be 5 inches.

    Yep I've seen a few totals around the 15" mark and a couple around 16" coming from NE PA and NW CT.

    The sun is starting to come out, take some pictures before it melts lol, it's already falling from the trees.

    You're a little silly sometimes lol. It will always be more up there because no one lives up there? lol Do you mean it's colder there because "no one lives up there?" I mean there's two things wrong with this statement, can you figure out what those two things are?

    Meanwhile it's about over here and the sun looks like it could come out at any time. This was a really nice storm with lots of large photogenic snowflakes and the trees are fully covered lol.

    I used to live near Prospect Park so it was a nice area to see accumulating snow. Before that I lived near Sheepshead Bay which didn't get much snow either lol.

    hmmm this is interesting, I just checked the hourly obs at JFK and they were at 32 F from 7 AM to 11 AM so they were at freezing for several hours. Heavy snow was never reported there but moderate snow was reported from 8:30 to 10:20 It's actually colder at JFK than it is at Central Park! Barometric pressure bottomed out at 29.43 at 8 AM

    the grass usually has more snow than a hard surface like your deck though

    see that eyelike feature offshore? there's thunderstorms developing around it as the storm rapidly strengthens. 983 mb now.

    But there's concrete jungles in Queens and Brooklyn too. I've seen them lol. Places like Jamaica and Hillside in Queens are like that too and Bay Ridge in Brooklyn. Maybe near Bayside and Whitestone it's much more "suburban" and much less concrete. I love Alley Pond Park up in NE Queens.

    It looks like the sun is trying to come out here lol, the snow has basically stopped.

    Don will this storm make it into your table of one of the heaviest snowfalls with temps at or above 33F? I really hope it does. It never got to 32F or below in the park did it? I would love to see if we can make a list of these types of storms for the airports too-- one for JFK and one for LGA (and maybe one for EWR too.)

    Is that a birdhouse I see there? But were are the birds lol? We always have a bunch of bright red cardinals come out during and after a snowstorm looking for food. They look absolutely exceptional in the snow.

    I wonder what your other place at Long Beach will end up with. I'm hoping they get at least 4.

    I'm hoping they get to 5 at least.... each storm has a "flavor" in terms of what kind of storm it was, and this storm definitely does not have a "flavor" of a 2.9 inch storm, it has the flavor of a "4-6" inch storm.
