  1. We may never see heat like 1953 again in our lifetimes simply because the climate has become wetter. As a matter of fact climate change should be framed more in terms of moisture than temperature. The moisture change is much more significant than any change in temperatures especially during the summer.
  2. there's some great summers on that list, 1953 really stands out-- three out of four months at or above 100? (JJAS) I don't see 1983 on this list, did EWR hit 100 when JFK did in July and August and what about in September when NYC hit 99?
  3. my electric bills are around 150 in the summer, I only turn on the a/c in my bedroom. power bills are always much worse during the winter
  4. 1993 was so much of a hotter summer than any other summer on this list. and yet 2010 was even hotter than 1993 but isn't on this list
  5. onshore? I thought it would be cooler with some awesome dry Canadian air coming from north, lots of sunshine, low humidity, etc.
  6. 1980: The relentless heat from the summer of 1980 continued. Record highs included: Wichita, KS: 110°, Oklahoma City, OK 108°, Columbia, MO: 108°, Topeka, KS: 107°, Dodge City, KS: 106°, Little Rock, AR: 105°, St. Louis, MO: 104° and Springfield, MO: 103°. (Ref. Wilson Wx. History) This was such an underrated summer, the hottest July/August couplet for us on record and the hottest and only August with a temperature above 80.0
  7. that JFK number is BS, it was definitely at or above 80.0 I don't subscribe to this antiquated idea that the new day begins at midnight/1 am.
  8. adjusting for calendar BS, JFK was definitely at or above 80.0
  9. ugh JFK should be given 80.0, it didn't go below 80.0 until after sunset, it was basically August by then, Don
  10. those were some extremes, from extremely cold and sometimes extremely snowy winters to the hottest stretch this area has ever seen in July 1977.
  11. July is basically over. To me, the month ended at sunset. I don't like midnight or 1 am date changes.
  12. I used to go to that area all the time, it's such a beautiful area (between Bayside and Great Neck). I wonder how Alley Pond Park is doing?
  13. I like day games on weekends, on the other hand I would ban night games on weekends lol Travel isn't a big deal these days when all of these teams travel via chartered jet.
  14. about the same here but the rain was never very heavy but it did rain for 3 hours we had about the same amount during the last long lasting deluge too
  15. wow Philly has been really hot, how many times has NYC had 20 90 degree readings in a month Don? Only July 1993 and July 1999? what's the JFK record for 90 degree days in one month Don? It has to be from July 2010?
  16. for all those heavy echoes it didn't rain all that hard here but it did rain for 3 hours and we ended up with 1.5 inches about the same as last time
