I enjoyed the first storm, that was an easy 2" here maybe even a little more than that, before it mixed and changed over.

No, we had filtered sunshine while it was snowing and the roads and driveways and cartops and rooftops were just wet at 31 degrees. We just live in a highly urbanized area, it's different for the north shore and for Central NJ.

Extended summer stormlover74 future snow hole banter thread 23

Tell me about it.... it's been decades since this area has seen a double digit March storm, regardless of what less urbanized areas have received (they did great in March 2018). -
But areas north of us got more snow too. The SST is 43-45 which is just too warm unless you have strong arctic air in the region. Borderline events are the ones which will go away first.

It snowed here on the south shore, but it didn't stick, which was an interesting experience. Areas north of us got more snow too, it just sucks to be near the ocean.

it could just as easily be broken in March by a renegade storm in the middle of a warm pattern like March 1998 had. -
Looking closely on this map I found someone who got even less than we did in our area haha. Okay, so I'm under the 2-3 inch band. NW Brooklyn is under the 1-2 inch band. My other house in PA is doing a lot better, it's at 16-20 inches and the highway which we use to get there is at 20-24 and just a little north of there (which I assume is Mt Pocono) is at 24-30 inches on the season.... if you go north of there the amounts drop off again. One thing I dont understand is..... days since 2" snowfall, how is it that central Queens is in the yellow (less than 5 days) while both west and east of there (including the north shore of Nassau County) it's 600-800 days?

this is the result of the oceans warming the most. so the outcome of all this is more humid summers, milder winters at the coast and more rainfall all year round

Haha I love that too. Whatever he changes it to, the opposite will happen lol. Maybe he should change it to Snowhater456 lol

Gravity is over! LMAO

This is going to miss us too lol

lol a little east of here has had even less snowfall (2") than we have (3").... any idea what that station is with 2" of snow? Farmingdale?

You should change your name to Stormtracker Ant. Seriously, ever since you became MJO812 we have not had MJO 8,1, OR 2 for more than a very brief period.

OES, Ed?

Don, do you have a short list of winters that had that kind of bad pattern the most?

BEST CAMERA for photographing?
LibertyBell replied to cyclogenesis's topic in Outdoor and Weather Photography
For an all in one solution I highly recommend reading reviews of the Panasonic FZ300 camera, it is absolutely amazing. Being able to go from 25-600mm EFL on a constant f/2.8 lens with the extensive feature set of this camera is absolutely amazing. It's weather and dust resistant too! It also does 4K extremely well and has 4K Photo Mode on top of it for up to 30 minutes of continuous photography! I just got this camera this past fall and I absolutely love it! -
for water, dont drink out of a plastic bottle, I use a six stage filter system. the filter does need to be changed out every year, but that's a small price to pay.

at a minimum our EPA should be doing its job and banning pesticides that are banned in other countries, but instead we need class action lawsuits to stop these corrupt companies. I am glad the Michael J Fox Foundation is now suing the EPA to put an end to their influence by the chemical lobby. Read this

the benefit to USDA organic (which is certified) is that it "should" not have pesticides in it. Unfortunately our regulatory agencies are captured, and many of the pesticides this backwards country still allows are banned in all other developed nations. The UN panel of scientists has clearly stated that pesticides are not needed on produce and should not be used anymore-- they are linked to everything from the current mass extinction of pollinators to major health issues in humans and other animals. There have been studies done showing that pesticides are present in the blood and urine of people who consume conventional food and none in those who consume food that is certified not to contain those pesticides. this only applies to pesticides of course, I don't know what the benefit would be regarding fish, if any. we've detected pesticides in our blood stream and they've been proven to cause brain development issues in children including autism and adhd. I try to grow my own food whenever possible, as removing pesticides from food is a tedious process that involves soaking in vinegar for 15 min and washing with soap and water both before and after that it's also good to avoid factory farmed meat, because 1) it's immoral and 2) it's unhealthy. that's why I only eat free range, no antibiotics and the animals weren't tortured in producing it.

applying pesticide to your clothes is not the same thing as eating it lol
-
Permethrin is what I have for my clothes. I just wish we had a pesticide for deer lol, the damn things love to jump over my fence. I have read that opossums have a big appetite for deer. I hope the pesticides you use are safer than what I've read about, which can be bad for children and for pets (glyphosate sprayed parks carry warnings on them to keep children and pets away.)
-
Yes but it also applies to Nassau County aka Western Long Island which is also overdeveloped. Snowfall amounts go up as you head east to Suffolk County because they are closer to late developing Miller B tracks. A prime example is how much more snow they get in March than we do.
-
I think this is more than just random, the same thing happened in the 80s and early and late 90s. It's a fact of nature that NYC and surrounding area is in a really bad place for snow-- we are between two predominant tracks, one that goes north of us and the other goes south of us. Delaware and Maryland are doing better for snow too. 1) being too close to a warming ocean (43-45F) 2) being too far west for late developing coastals 3) being too far north for typical strong el nino storms 4) being too far south for typical clippers 5) being too far east for typical west to east storms
