  1. Interesting that outside of 2003, all of those are from around 50 years ago or more. Surprised that 1976 isn't on this list.
  2. Also reminds me of the Feb 26 2010 storm (if you want to talk about winter.)
  3. Not seeing sun isn't a good thing though, SAD hitting early this fall.
  4. Do these work on a PC or do you need to have a phone to be able to use them?
  5. That dark red thunderstorm that hit here from about 4 PM to 5 PM was a sight to behold. We usually get something like that when a storm is about to leave the area so it was fun to see (as long as you know it's the storm's last hurrah lol.) Also the limited sunlight we had earlier in the day made me think we might create enough instability to get these in the late afternoon.
  6. Rare to see 5" amounts at both my houses lol. Reminds me of the Jan 2016 super snowstorm where I got over 30 inches of snow at both. It's actually closer to 6" at both places now with the heavy downpours I got at both places.
  7. We actually had some of heaviest rains after this map was issued. Long duration strong thunderstorms after 4 PM with some very heavy downpours. The sky has finally cleared and I can see the moon shining over my garden-- the day will be glorious and temps in the mid 70s for the next two days!
  8. Do you think that the LR weather modeling will be able to add this new layer of complexity programmed into it so that we can improve these forecasts, Chris?
  9. This is why ENSO centric forecasts are going to have major issues (they've had issues for a few years now.)
  10. It's as good as gone and it'll be gone for a nice long time. By the way, look towards the south, I can see large gaps in the clouds already with blue patches of sky visible in that direction.
  11. I once saw a rainbow in a clear sky. There were weird circumstances surrounding it. It was an unusually warm mid February day in 2018 (in the 70s) and it was a reverse rainbow fragment and it was directly overhead early in the afternoon with not a cloud in the sky. Later drove from the Poconos to NY and on the way I saw a forest fire near I-80 in NW NJ. I wonder if the weird reverse rainbow fragment had something to do with that?
  12. But Ian turned into Noreaster is exactly the type of storm you'd expect to get in October, so I would say it was more than just luck.
  13. I had to do a doubletake.... 86 inches of rain is a lot.
  14. What is that thing? Look at those eyes, it looks ANGRY. I had some giant black bugs coming out of my drain over the summer I sprayed so much RAID that I had a headache for a week lol. They were some kind of flying beetle or water bug they were only able to fly a few feet but were scary nonetheless. Then when the rain started I saw a huge 4 inch long centipede with dozens of legs that looked like eyelashes and that had to get squished too.
  15. Yeah my neighbors who have grass got all greened up back in September. You don't need that much rain to do that, an inch is enough.
  16. Sun is coming out on Thursday and then probably not going away for over a week.
  17. Will they post a final map tomorrow night when the rain ends? I'd really like to see both the final rainfall totals and the highest wind gusts recorded.
  18. Wasn't the tropical season also more reminiscent of an El Nino pattern?
  19. Yes there's been a sharp cutoff up by you guys. Meanwhile the heavy rain has made it all the way back to NEPA.
  20. I was watering the new trees I planted so I know what you mean, but the drought was pretty localized to our area. I'd like to see how this compares to some of the big droughts we had in the 80s and 90s when there were widespread water shortages. The one in 99 I referenced earlier was historic, in that there was half an inch or less of rain for multiple months. It seems like a big tropical system or noreaster is what breaks the pattern; in 1999 it was Floyd right around my birthday./
  21. At this time of the year it doesn't matter-- we're well into fall and nothing is growing here right now. Also the reservoirs are fine, so any rainfall deficit doesn't really matter. Not every year has to be way above normal, we've had plenty (too many!) years with too much rain, it's time for things to balance out now. Also, if you want to water something, you can do so. Lawns are a waste of space and a waste of resources, so I was done with those years ago.
  22. Yes at 80. It had a slight burning smell at the beginning and I saw a some wispy smoke, but that was likely just the dust from over the summer being burned off
  23. If it was winter, it still wouldn't be snowing here.
  24. Dude my legs were freezing, I didn't just turn the heat on, it's up at 80! Perfect!
  25. Not including Central NJ where it's already over half a foot just south of Toms River; that area may end up with double digit totals (of rainfall of course lol).
