The main point is that it wasn’t in the shade prior to the 1990s. Those trees grew up around and over that platform. So when all those old 90s and 100s records occurred from the 1930s into the 1980s, it had more of an open exposure like the current 102° a few blocks to the east. So subtract 3° to 5° from all those old records and there would have been hardly any days over 100° from the 1930s into the 1980s.
1993 and 1999 too.
Was the sensor sited properly in 1993 and 1999?

Holy shit I haven't been outdoors since 645AM, am in southern Queens and it's hot as balls out.
I havent felt this type of heat since I was in a heatwave in Greece in 2007.
Thermometers around here say 104

Now that I think about it, I guess 2010 was this hot here? I don't recall what my thermometers were saying then. I'm sure it was something similar
2011 too

Also I feel like this rather late in the day for a 100 degree reading at ISP. I'm so used to seabreezes.
seabreezes suck
we exceeded 103 three more times since 3 pm including a 103.6 a few minutes ago (the other two times were 103.5 and 103.1), so 17 times over 103 now.

Awesome thank you for that! It obviously has allot to do with the fact that it’s just in a green space.
Parks are by definition a green space though.
Looks like they have the fences I talked about surrounding the equipment, so they wouldn't need to hide it under trees.

My concern is that it is affected by the sun leading to artificially high readings.
The clouds have come in to block the sun for a few seconds and then the sun came right back out lol.
107 in Brownsville Brooklyn
105 in Tremont in The Bronx
104 in Ozone Park in Queens.

That station next to JFK says 108.7 degrees haha
Get a look at these, the 111.4 is probably too hot but I compared some of the others to the micronet and they are very similar

The 100° at Westhampton ties that location's all-time high. That mark was set on July 5, 1999 and tied on July 6, 2010.
some of our all time great heatwaves, has MTP hit 100 before too Don?

The prior June mark was 92° on June 21, 2012. However, the POR is very short (1998 start).
whats the all time record there Don?
Have they ever hit 100?
It would have been in 1999, 2010 or 2011.
SST-- 70 degrees now being reported near Long Beach and Monmouth County, 69 degrees near ACY (who also hit 100), 65 degrees near Montauk, 69 degrees near Chatham and 62 degrees near Boston
all of these per TWC.

The New York Downtown station (KJRB) has reached 105. I am not confident in its reliability. Having said that, parts of the City beyond JFK Airport did reach 100° based on the NYC Micronet.
wow this is absolutely amazing Don, maybe this ASOS station should be used instead of Central Park?

You can see that warming happening now in Queens N of the sea breeze. LGA turning a bit more WNW on their wind. Still think 100 could happen there after 330
we peaked here at 104.2 at 2:25 pm

Thick tree cover for Central Park. Westerly winds are ideal for heating the Boston area, as the air warms upon descent from the Berkshires.
But what causes westerly winds at Boston and southerly winds down here? Is it just the position of the high, Don?
Newark (interiors of NJ/se NYS/CT) Sun-Wed June 22-25 possibly hottest 3-4 day period this year (2025) with 2-4 100F+ days, possibly hottest June daily. NYC probably one 100 deg. HI exceeds 105 interior M-T June 23-24.
