  1. We're kicking the can through 50% of winter. Shocker.
  2. The ASOS is to support airport operations and is run by the FAA. The NWS is only able to glean information from it and has a limited say in it's location.
  3. lol Makes sense. Slightly inland away from water could lead to better accumulation.
  4. IMO, this is part of a larger issue with the national AWOS/ASOS network. There has been extensive discussion in the New England subforum about the FAA's lack of routine maintenance for technology, and funding the observer positions at the airports. Thankfully, Maryland is deploying the mesonet statewide and we are adding snow depth sensors to all of our stations so this problem will be somewhat mitigated locally.
  5. Some of the Baltimore TV mets are openly questioning the accuracy of the BWI Trace reading. They are arguing it's artificially low
  6. DCA snowfall measurement controversy has spread to BWI.
  7. The bar was so low to begin with. That being said, I'm happy we finally got something.
  8. If Camp David or Site R ASOS are online, now is the time to be checking them. You can see the colder air working down to the surface on them. It's a darn shame our western Maryland mesonet stations aren't getting installed until Tuesday and Wesneday this week.
  9. Our climo us shifting to that of southern North Carolina. It's only a matter of time before snowless winters are normal in these parts, likely in our lifetimes.
  10. It's both. There just isn't any cold air. Good luck to those in the mts. I'm out.
  11. Looks like most of Garrett County has flipped to snow.
  12. Where are you located at? Are you able to submit an mPING report?
  13. Tornado warned Cell making a run to the southern suburbs of Richmond.
  14. Couple of mPING reports from West Virginia reporting ice pellets or a rain/snow mix.
  15. Absolutely pouring in Finksburg. Pretty soul crushing this isn't snow or even sleet.
  16. The can kicking shall continue until morale improves
  17. We do warm and boring really well here. It's about all we do anymore.
  18. I remember that one. NBC 10 was the only TV station to forecast snow. Everyone else had rain. We got 5" of paste in the hills of Manayunk and it was a wreck. Loved it.
