Another mow is upcoming today for me!

I have officially lost my current number of total mows.

It doesn’t matter because there is no way that I would catch @Itstrainingtime in the mow count this season!

    Mow #26 commences shortly!

You have had a LOT more rain than I have, and your mow total is probably closer to me than you realize. Last year I was well into the 30s at this point.

This is going to be one of the worst flooding events that area has ever seen. The awful flooding they normally get including the record flooding from last winter pales in comparison to what's coming. So no I wouldn't be jumping for joy.

Exactly right. Going to be some ugly scenes in the coming days.

I just mowed and boy you ain't kidding.  Gorgeous out.  I reckon that will be my last mow for quite some time; yard is really turning brown in the most exposed spots.  I want you to go a full calendar year with either no long sleeves or no long pants -- your choice.  You can do it!

Wow thanks for bringing that to my attention.  Just incredible.  Hold on a quick minute, I just checked and this is what NWS is showing for Death Valley??

    This Afternoon
Sunny and hot, with a high near 116. Breezy, with a south wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph.
    Tonight
Mostly clear, with a low around 90. South wind 13 to 18 mph becoming light and variable.
    Saturday
A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Increasing clouds, with a high near 104. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon.
    Saturday Night
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 84. Southeast wind 13 to 18 mph becoming north northeast 7 to 12 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
    Sunday
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 86. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
    Sunday Night
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 83. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
    Monday
Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 90. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
    Monday Night
A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 83.

Whoops, thanks for further checking into this. I got my numbers from the basin of Death Valley National Park. Although interestingly, every single number that I saw in the forecast that I got is identical to yours except for Sunday's high. Every one.

If you guys haven’t noticed, a tropical storm is going to hit San Diego. Lots of firsts coming over there.

I believe that this is the first official Tropical Storm watch ever issued for California. Someone please correct me if that's an error on my part.

I think it's been a fantastic summer.  We have a near-flawless stretch upcoming this weekend too.  Things look to turn dry but hey, we are approaching late August.  All in all, I think it's been a good mix of warm and cool, wet and dry, and just overall pleasant (minus the couple smoke days ha).  Low of 65 here.

I saw you guys had a flood advisory up that way.  Looks like you got the goods overnight.  Just .06" here.

    Yes sir.

I haven't had a single day that seriously threatened 100. We've had some stretches where the weather was very much summer-like. It's a phenomena that happens each year between May and September. And in some summers that weather is relentless, given that it's summer. That has not been the case this year.

Nights are warmer than they were years ago. No denying that. But daytime highs have been pedestrian.

With MDT going another day without hitting 90, they have not hit that mark in Aug yet and appears they will not at least through the 19th having them go 21 straight days with no 90's.  The last time they had no 90's through the first 19 days of Aug was 2014.   Last year MDT had eight 90's in Aug by this day of the month.   They have had four 89's this month so it is not "winter like".  Maybe some 40's Sat AM?

This summer just has not been that bad. At least from my perspective and I hate heat.

Agree that the rain this next 24 hours is a lottery.    That is one reason I am done with full yard mowing for the summer and maybe even until next year.  I will have to mow a few small areas under trees and when leaves are on the ground.

I'm hoping for some water tonight but actual expectations are very low. Some hint of a shower opportunity with a front around next Tuesday evening but otherwise...

  8. 10 minutes ago, Mount Joy Snowman said:

Low of 63 here.  I have serious doubts about the ability of tonight's frontal passage to produce much in the way of widespread convection and rainfall, which is unfortunate because after that the globals turn mostly bone dry for the foreseeable future.  Either way, a splendid weekend in the offing.

Yep, for some the pattern is going from dry to drier. For the rest, the endless parade of storms looks to be ending.

    WGAL is in...

    1) Top gust on Friday is 25

    2) Chamber weekend

    3)  Another fake heatwave next week in the "weakest summer" in many years.  If we get a real summer next year, people may be spoiled by this year.

Just a few short years ago I had 47 days at or above 90.

So far this year I'm at 14.

We were behind on tropical counts last year as we entered August, and it never really did catch up to expectations though there was one the devastating one in SW Florida of course.

I love model reading so you may have to ignore some of my posts (like others do).

We are watering once or twice a day as well.  Doing it after dark when I can...to avoid neighbor issues.

I'm not going to ignore any model posts - I'm just taking them with a huge grain of salt right now. I had people texting/calling me the other day because WGAL was going on and on about a "high impact weather night" or something like that. We ended up getting impacted with variable cloudiness and a slight breeze. Then, the next day I have to go back and try and explain to everyone what happened. Again. It gets tiresome. Sometimes I wish that my weather nerdiness wasn't public knowledge. LOL

    Pleasant 58 this AM.

It is a beautiful morning. It will be nice later on when I'm watering my dying plants. :)

Nearly halfway through the month and MDT is running almost spot-on average at 76.4 (just a tenth AN).

National high of 119 at Death Valley and low of 36 at Grand Lake, CO.

The Atlantic tropics sure are quiet.  As has been mentioned, they'll need to pick up the pace to hit their averages.  Although, I have a feeling Sep/Oct could bring some Whoppers.  We shall see.  Carry on.

I don't know a lot about tropical, but I've been reading that despite the toasty ocean waters, other ingredients needed for storm development have been horrid to this point. I guess there's an abundance of sheer that is one of the main culprits.

A little cell popped up just east of @Itstrainingtime and went right over me. Maybe a tenth of an inch. Not much but sorely needed.

Got another brief shower overnight for a total of .12” and a low of 65. Looks like a splendid weekend on tap.

I stopped looking at models, forecasts, anything related to what might happen weather wise. I had no idea it rained that close to me last evening - my wife and I were out in our backyard for hours working and then enjoying some beverages. I'm not one to complain about forecasts...I think it's a bad look to do so. Having said that, twice in the past week I was "forecast" to get soaking rains. Twice I got less than scraps. I'm losing credibility because people depend on me to let them know what's going to happen and I've looked really stupid multiple times.

I am going to be highly skeptical of rain forecasts for some time. I'll believe it when it's in the bucket.

I just got home from my first cruise to the Bahamas. Was in Miami for a day before leaving on the boat…there and on each island we stopped at, it was like low 90s and of course tropical humidity. 105-110 heat index each day. So today here at home, this is not too bad!

Congrats on your first cruise - I hope you had a great time. My wife and I have been on a "few" and have loved every one. Heading to the southern Caribbean in March 2025.

Grand total of .02” here. Yawn.

That might be the biggest understatement of the year.

In the past 5 days, 2 separate systems were forecast to drop 1.5 - 2.5" of rain between them.

My grand total from both was .04"

    I got nada last night.

    I should clarify my post:

I did receive .02" early yesterday evening. That was in addition to the .02" that I got from the last big rain event late last week. I did not receive anything overnight last night.

Looks like Lanco did not do a lot last night but the HRRR and 3K both have a wave ride the front this afternoon to put them in the game.
