  1. I did all of those things as well, but the holy grail of television weather was Weather World. Hands down.
  2. Funny thing...as a kid back in the early to mid 1970s I would lay in bed awake in the middle of the night with my little transistor radio waiting for Accu Weather updates...all while listening to Jim Croce, Paul McCartney and Wings, and the Carpenters. Them were some good times...
  3. I wasn't trying to strike a nerve with my previous post regarding January...one thing Eric is exceptionally good at is pattern recognition. Doesn't mean he's right, doesn't mean all of our eggs are in one week's basket. But as bubbler stated above, their are already signs out there that the great pattern being advertised is perhaps in jeopardy...(or delayed)
  4. Reading Horst's latest discussion this afternoon, he is calling for a wild and active January with lots of...rain and some snow. While there might be a 4-7 day period of cold, wintery weather he doesn't see winter locking in through the month. Merry Christmas to each of you. Enjoy this special season and let's get ready for what we do best...more rain later this week!
  5. Yep. I can't ever remember the Susquehanna running this high heading into Christmas. A testament to just how wet it has been. We're getting to the time of year when the river runs high due to snow melt or ice jams.
  6. If I see ANY snow on the ground tomorrow morning I will consider it the greatest miracle since Lake Placid 1980. If you're saying "huh" to that, I'm referring to the Miracle on Ice. (USA defeating the Soviet Union in ice hockey during the Olympic Games)
  7. There were 3 distinct bands that rolled through here between 5 and 7 this evening...you missed all 3 of them? Wow.
  8. Pretty crazy stuff right there MAG...it still has the feel of a spring evening down this way.
  9. I'm at 78" for the year. Heck...might as well root on another soaker for late next week and take a run at the magical 80" mark.
  10. Legit tropical downpour here. Started and stopped like someone was operating a high pressure washer. Very impressive.
  11. In Lanco the Manheim/Mt. Joy corridor is running more than 20" over the official station at MU.
  12. At least by morning it will be 58 and rain instead of 33 and rain!
  13. Rain is already falling here. Like I said yesterday, we do rain like it's no one's business.
  14. This I can get on board with. Still lots to be excited about by the time we flip the calendar.
  15. I'm still not seeing anything to get excited about regarding snow on Christmas. After our big rainer it looks mainly dry around here for about a week. Hope I'm wrong!
  16. Thanks for posting that, what a year it has been.
  17. This is what Horst is saying for Lancaster: (and why I'm not saying much about it) "For Lancaster, PA...the only vague hope is a weak clipper system that will move through late Sunday night with near freezing temps. It would have to come in sharper & colder to give us anything significant--a real long shot."
  18. Awesome map! I referenced the Piedmont initially, it was something that I was taught in school...Lancaster was in the Piedmont section of PA. My understanding was it was the area essentially to the south and east of Blue Mountain and northwest of I-95. In '93 those north and west of Blue Mountain got 2' or more of snow. (roughly speaking)
  19. So is there any way to know if we're setting a record for most Flood Watches in a single year? We do rain really well.
  20. Yeah, that's ridiculous. I had about 18" down here and that was with about a 6 hour period of driving sleet. I think just about everyone north and west of the Piedmont was 2' or more. (Syracuse approached 4' if my memory is correct)
  21. Yep! (Though I agree with Superstorm regarding 1993)
  22. That snowfall map above looks somewhat similar to what the NAM was spitting out for January 2016. We all laughed. And then it almost verified perfectly. (Particularly in the I-81 corridor)
  23. The Mount Joy/Manheim area is above 80" YTD as well. I wish I knew exactly how much but I don't know if there's an "official" station or another way to verify where they're at. Are your stats strictly rainfall or is that total QPF?
  24. Totally agree with you. I believe the calls of a historic winter plus having a significant snowfall so early in the season have raised a lot of unrealistic expectations. Sure...it's a disappointing stretch snow-wise right now but we've been below normal temps for the 1st half of the month. You and I both know it could be WAY worse...
