  1. You need to go change your snow contest call. You're stressing out the weenies with that low sh*t.
  2. I'm not changing a thing. Go big or go home. And frankly, I'm not that big.
  3. Good, God, our forum could sure use that.
  4. I'm planning on getting up early and taking a walk for a couple of hours in at least moderate snow that I probably will be able to hear accumulating. What happens the rest of the day is really not that important to me.
  5. I have some and even newspaper clippings. I’ll dig them out during my off day Wednesday
  6. I think Leesburg remembers it too. He grew up in the same area.
  7. I could go on about that storm for hours. The forecast was for 2 - 4" in PG county where I lived and it came at the end of a stretch of really cold, dry pattern. I was ice skating on St. Leonard's creek down in @PrinceFrederickWx's area on Sunday. The ice was well over a foot thick on the half mile wide creek, but my sister and I had to come off the ice when the tide came up. Water was coming up and over the ice along the shore, which was probably how it got so thick in the first place. Anyway, snow started falling by about 3PM and by the time we got home that evening, there was already two inches on the ground. I went out to shovel thinking half had already fallen, but when I woke up the next morning and turned on my weather radio, I heard the real voice saying, "Roanoke, 14", Culpepper, 16", ..." It was still before sunrise, but I jumped out of bed and could see that our two-rung wooden fence was almost one rung because the snow was so deep. Right around sunrise Monday morning was when the rates got the best. Definitely my favorite storm of all time. Probably because it was my first blizzard and the first really big snow in DC in years.
  8. I was a dumb-ass kid in '79 so I'd be guessing on visibility, but I remember sitting at the bay window in our living room and seeing across the street was tough in the neighborhood with 1/4 acre lots. It was just a sea of white. If it happened now while I am a dumb-ass adult, I'd probably take note of it.
  9. The rates on President's Day 1979 were some of the highest I have ever experienced. Absolutely poured snow for hours. I also remember standing in the middle of my street during the 1983 blizzard when the skies lit up with lightning followed by an immediate crack of snow-muffled thunder. I almost crapped myself, but it was pouring dessert plates at the time. Those rates may have been even heavier than '79, but didn't last as long.
  10. Heck yeah! I'll look for it. Thanks!
  11. If you've got the cash, try Glengoyne (I think it's around $50). I also like the Speyside scotches a lot. Very briny without the peat.
  12. BWI: 5.1" DCA: 4.9" IAD: 6.8" RIC: T Tiebreaker: 1.28"
  13. Just wait until Wednesday when I’m posting from a brewery
  14. Just had several of the beers at Max’s sour fest. Oh man
  15. I think the major difference in an icing event this winter when compared to any event in the past is the saturated ground. NWS always talks up down trees and power issues in icing events, and sometimes we shrug it off, but this year is unique.
  16. After seeing so many trees come down in last week's storm, I think there should be some concern for more of the same with this storm. Any icing on trees combined with the crazy amount of rain we've had in the past year, is certainly going to be result in a higher risk of downed trees and power outages.
  17. I'm sure the majority totally agree and support this. My advice would be for all mods to completely ignore and not engage in any whiny posts about complaints or posts disappearing. They can't argue if there is no one to argue with.
  18. lol Well, it didn't take long to strike the first post in the storm thread.
  19. I want to love Nathan's but they give me acid reflux.
  20. Sausages are amazing. Especially with sautéed peppers, onions, and spicy sweet mustard.
  21. It doesn't bother me that some of you have different political views than I do, but I can't be in the same forum with the kind of people that don't like cheese or hotdogs or cheese and hotdogs.
  22. I have some sourdough bread left over from our valentines dinner here, and I'm making my favorite, toast and butter now. With fresh shredded Parmesan on top. Cheese goes with everything.
