  1. Definitely a good opportunity for our 1st LES of the season. CLE is onboard... if temps are that cold I wouldn't rule out accumulations. I think 850 temps were similar during the October 2013 LES snow which caused a lot of tree damage locally. 850 mb temperatures are progged to drop to between - 6 and -8 C across the area over the weekend supporting instability over the lake. Unfortunately, this means lake effect rain showers and even potential for some snow showers in the traditional primary snowbelt will develop in the wake of the cold front. Any accumulations will take place in the higher elevations at this time.
  2. CLE has had their share of bad forecasts lately. With the heavy rain approaching today's forecast looks no different. .NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/... Warm front continues it slow move northward. The showers north of it are struggling to move to the north and east as it encounters some drier air. Still think much of NW Ohio will see some light rain through the morning but it will decrease in coverage through the afternoon.
  3. Surprised the water temp departure isn't higher like some of the other lakes. No complaints about the warm weather... let's hold as much warmth as possible in the water until November. I've noticed a lot more color showing over the past few days. The leaf wilting seems to have stopped so hopefully we'll have good fall color. The one thing I have noticed this year is all of the squirrels. When we moved here 6 years ago we rarely saw any squirrels... thanks to the hawks. Now they seem to be everywhere this year - black, gray and brown.
  4. The leaves seem to be wilting and falling off. They have black patches as well. It has been really humid so maybe that has something to do with it. Color should start popping in the next couple of weeks.
  5. 2.75" of rain since Monday. The ground was pretty dry so we needed some rain, but not that much. Leaves are falling but very little color.
  6. 2.6" storm total IMBY. Didn't see any flooding locally as we never really had heavy rainfall rates... Just constant light to moderate rain.
  7. Only .25" at my house yesterday. The heaviest storms stayed just north and west. That's a huge difference over a short distance. I have family in Russell and they have had over 2.5" the past two days. My dewpoint was up to 79 as well yesterday evening... that doesn't happen very often. The lake breeze appears a little weaker today so we'll see what happens.
  8. It was interesting to watch the storms fire on the boundaries. I'm about 5 miles east of Chagrin Falls, and had impressive cloud to ground lightning around 3pm, but little rain. Picked up .40" with the storm around 10pm. The ground is pretty dry around here so the rain is welcome. Hoping we can get a repeat today with storms firing on the lake breeze.
  9. Thanks for posting. Definitely an interesting read.
  10. CLE has definitely been in the rain jackpot zone. My yard is starting to dry, but still nice and green. We've had close to CLE's total in this area... but most of that fell over a short amount of time. It doesn't take more than a couple days of sun to dry out the clay soil around here.
  11. CLE is currently at 6.58" for July.... currently #6 wettest. Could make a run at #5 if we get more rain tonight/tomorrow.
  12. Definitely a wet start to July. Close to 4" of rain already. Can't recall my yard being this wet in early July.
  13. CLE will be -6.1 for the month of April. After a -4.0 departure in March I'd say we are due for some warmer weather. There were a few flurries around yesterday morning before the clouds scoured. out.
  14. Congrats on the new job! Sorry to hear that you will be leaving. I always look forward to your forecasts and input throughout the Winter. As DTA mentioned, we had over 100" of snow out this way so no complaints. We made a late rally which changed things dramatically. Good luck with the new job and take care!
  15. Nice. I'm out of town so missed this one. Let me know what your final measurement is.
  16. I was kind of hoping to be done with the snow. There's a surprising amount of glacier like snow still on the ground in the shady areas. Most of my yard is still covered.
  17. Nice pics. That place is buried. Congrats on the new location.
  18. Your new property sounds like a great spot for LES. Pretty much a jackpot area for multiple wind directions. I'm looking at buying property in South Ripley... hopefully this summer. It doesn't have the elevation of your area but should be a good spot for W and WSW lake effect snows.
  19. Measured about the same here. The snow is fluffy and blowing around. Yeah, this has been an impressive March considering it is only the 14th. Snow depth in my yard varies greatly... with just a couple of inches in the wet areas that get sun, to 12"+ in the shady areas.
  20. These squalls mean business. An absolute whiteout here in Chagrin right now. The next couple of days could put me close to 100" for the season which would be right around normal.
  21. We need these favorable wind directions earlier in the season. There's a ton of snow out there... feels like mid-winter, but I would be content with closing the books on this winter.
  22. Yeah, this storm definitely bumps it up a grade. A pic from around 5am when it was still ripping, then after sunrise.
  23. Around 7am I measured an additional 12" since 6pm yesterday. What a nice surprise.
  24. Picked up around 3" last night. Very fluffy snow. Thanks for the forecast OH Weather. Look forward to seeing what later today/tonight brings.
  25. Nice! That's a lot of snow in a short amount of time. As DTA mentioned, just a coating here this morning.
