  1. again... weirdest winter ever. Basically pretty warm wire-to-wire, but the biggest snowfall in NYC history and the coldest temp in 22 years. Sure.
  2. it's just... mild. Like, you walk outside, and it doesn't feel that cold. It's not like it's been 70+ (although we've had 6 days of 60s this month in DC). I think you are seeing the same thing in the urban areas all up and down I-95. There just isn't much cold air around, so at night, the UHI basically dominates. Sure, your typical areas will get their radiational cooling. But we're talking 20s at night - not exactly frigid. I think the most disconcerting thing is that literally after a frontal passage, it STILL struggles to get below freezing. WTF?
  3. That really is something. Now we almost never get freezes before Nov 15th...
  4. And it's not like it's been super hot, where we had days of 70s etc. It just hasn't been cold. Down in DC it feels like a typical winter in maybe Charlotte, NC. Lows 35-40, highs in the low 50s. Actually pretty unsettling tbh.
  5. Is my count right that the city has only had 3 days so far this month of 32 or below? That's insane.
  6. ugghhhhh.... at least we got about a foot in the city. F that storm.
  7. lmao - i count 3 - THREE - days of 32 or below at Central Park this January. That's insane. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Looks like they'll finish the month with maybe one more on the 31st, but that's it.
  8. i mean just give me something to shovel. Just moved into a house for the first time in 20 years - i wanna fucking shovel some snow.
  9. can you imagine being in that snow hole south of Lake Ontario? Man... at least we are surrounded by places that have also had no snow.
  10. NYC will set the record for latest measurable snow on record
  11. it looks like we'll also make it through the month without a high temp in the 30s. So far the lowest max this month is 40F.
  12. yeah we didn't get enough absurd warmth (i.e. 70+ highs). But we've got to be near some kind of record for highest monthly min (29F now which looks like it should hold) and fewest number of sub-freezing (< 32F) nights (so far at 3, we might tack on a couple more).
  13. yep - once we get into Feb I start to look forward to it. Especially if we aren't getting any snow.
  14. lol - DCA low of 33. What a joke.
  15. Another day in the height of "winter", another midnight temp in the low 40s
  16. he got into it with some NE snow weenies earlier this season. I hope that is not coloring his analysis here, but I say this as someone who spent years mostly participating in the NYC sub - with some folks it's just best to ignore them.
  17. one thing i've noticed over the years on these boards is that folks know their beer. I second this.
  18. A couple more... There is NOTHING like being in NYC in a snowstorm.
  19. Battery Park City from the 2016 blizzard:
  20. Yeah we barely get below 40F here in DC. It's basically a typical winter in Atlanta or Charlotte.
