  1. the fact that DCA struggles to get below freezing with reasonably "cold" air masses these days is telling.
  2. yep we had a brief period as well in Tenleytown. 42-43 here (at my new elevation of about 380 ft lol).
  3. I have my station set up now up in Tenley - looks like in general I run about 2-3F lower than DCA (40.5F at the moment vs 43F). Still some heat island because we are close enough to Wisconsin Ave but the elevation makes a difference.
  4. yeah it's pretty common for there to be snow up there and "white rain" downtown. looks like DCA got down to 33F - 34F downtown here.
  5. low of 32F here downtown (West End) - although in a week I will be at around 400ft up in Tenleytown lol (we are moving).
  6. No freeze at DCA (37) - we wait another day. NYC and BOS also bottomed out in the upper 30s.
  7. I know it's about to get cold (although we'll see if downtown / DCA actually get a freeze), but the first part of this month has been insane: Nov 1: 76/57 Nov 2: 71/53 Nov 3: 72/51 Nov 4: 75/52 Nov 5: 79/62 Nov 6: 79/66 Nov 7: 81/59 Nov 8: 62/49 Nov 9: 61/45 Nov 10: 70/48 Nov 11: 71/63 (so far)
  8. yeah but at least it's not Indiana.
  9. i'm glad this isn't just me. you literally can't take a cold shower here from like May through early October.
  10. yep that's what happens. first freeze (at least since i've moved back to DC) seems to be that 2nd/3rd week of Nov (looks like that'll be the case this year as well). But then below freezing temps are still pretty infrequent until after Christmas, so they come back. Urban areas of the metro really only have like 6-8 weeks where temps reliably get below freezing, which is kind of insane. By late Feb/March the mosquitos are back lol.
  11. downtown we deal with those mf'ers until near Christmas these days. it's ridiculous.
  12. gotta wonder when was the last time that DCA had a higher max in November vs October.
  13. lol why does DC proper have a frost advisory? It's still in the low 50s out.
  14. Below 70F here in the west end for the first time in about a month. DCA still holding strong in the low-mid 70s.
  15. 95/78 rn downtown as the storms approach - looks like i had 100/78 earlier this afternoon. brutal.
  16. 85/76 at the 10am ob for DCA. Toasty.
  17. DCA at 86/77 - brutal. 90/77 here downtown.
  18. Looks like around 2:25pm I had a 96/80 reading. LOL.
  19. we've gotten like 10" of rain here since around July 1
  20. getting absolutely hammered with rain downtown - well over 1" now.
  21. they really should relocate the official DC obs back to somewhere in the District.
  22. pretty cool shot of how the local UHI works in the urban core:
