  1. GYX AFD doesn’t even mention the NH mountain areas lol. Red headed stepchild
  2. Speaking of which, suddenly it went to moderate/heavy snow with big fluffy flakes
  3. I think that’s a great point. Growing up near the Alps in Italy, the Alps had great snow but not frequent at all. Patterns there can be very stubborn - you can have a 2 week period that brings 10 feet of snow, and then nothing for a month. But everything is above 3000 feet so the snow preservation is usually great unless you get what they call “Phoen” which is a downsloping wind from the north, that can wipe out a deep pack in no time. Here, while the East Coast is famous for its ice, upslope prone location actually have really good snow quality because of the consistent refreshers. I haven’t counted but it seems like we have measurable snow at least 50% of the days. That keeps surfaces nice and fresh, and trees covered. Great for skiing and so scenic!
  4. I’ve really stopped caring about epic. I’d rather have these great, prolonged 2” a day patterns than the heartache of coastal cutter no cutter etc etc.
  5. Was not expecting such a snowy day. 2.5” new
  6. 1.25” overnight with a nice steady light snowfall. I really don’t care much about what this upcoming storm does, just give me a nice upslope flow after it and I’m happy! We have opened up most of the glades with the upslope following the last storm. Sweet pattern.
  7. Btw 2.4” today and light snow at the moment. Skiing was amazing once again.
  8. So much uncertainty, don’t get too vested at this stage!
  9. Lol only in the NH mountains in the winter?
  10. The never ending sunshine blocking flurries continue here
  11. Just saw this picture on Instagram, really shows how localized upslope can be on days like today
  12. Back home from Conway. It still amazes me to experience the difference in sensible weather that the upslope areas create. North Conway had pretty thin cover and looked almost spring like. Sun was out, and you could even see mount Washington. You'd have no idea that Bretton Woods was in the snow and clouds all day. Driving up, you get into a few flurries starting in Hart's Location. Once you get to the 2 waterfalls just before the AMC, it was moderate snizzle and snow covered roads (and it's that way till my house). Just amazing. 0.4" added today - so very light stuff
  13. Came down to Conway. Nice to see sun after over a week! But speaking of not epic... There is so little snow here for mid winter. Crazy for the MWV.
  14. Geez. We're really the only ones not to see the sun. Endless snizzle
  15. Look at that blue sky. And in the meantime, it's London gray here with light snow.
  16. Persistent light snow continues. Cold day, went out skiing but kids couldn't handle it for long
  17. I agree that this wasn't epic. We get these periods fairly regularly. I mean - they're still awesome periods, but the frequency at which they happen makes them not that epic. I've certainly seen better/longer periods like this several times in just the few years I've been here.
  18. True. Even though more often than not even cutters deliver. It's fun to have these daily snows though. I have to say that for how abysmal this year has been in the snowfall department, it's been very scenic. Lots of birch benders and days with trees covered in snow for how little snow we've gotten. Also, really good snow growth tonight.
  19. Snowing moderately here. What a great week. A big sad to let this perfect pattern go. I don't care for cold and dry - of course, we probably shouldn't complain after 6 straight days of snow
  20. Today was just about perfect for skiing. Mild temperatures (upper 20s), big fat flakes falling most of the time, not a breath of wind, and amazing trail conditions. Couldn’t ask for better.
  21. In the meantime, nice refresher in progress
  22. I used to ski Cannon a decent amount when we first came up here - had a combined pass. I love the vibe there and the terrain is awesome but the conditions are atrocious more often than not. As stated, they don’t get as much snow as other area resorts, and I’ve often found that that spot gets quite a bit less snow than even just a few miles down the notch. Some sort of shadowing. But most importantly, the wind destroys it, so at times even a 1 foot snowstorm does absolutely nothing for the conditions. That’s why I ended up giving up the combined pass and sticking with Bretton Woods
