  1. Lots of nearby farmland with standing water in the low spots that typically flood first. Still pouring.
  2. Heaviest rain rates of the day here now. Up to 46 degrees. The remaining patches of snow in the yard are turning into fog. 0.75” so far.
  3. MRB not reporting precip totals this morning. Strange how that always happens with large events.
  4. Last 3 runs of the 12k NAM for QPF at MRB: 06Z - 3.62” 12Z - 2.67” 18Z - 2.98” I’m all in.
  5. Big ring around the moon tonight. 40 degrees with about 80% snow coverage left of 1-2” depth.
  6. I remember that front in 1977 that WinterWxLuvr mentioned. We were under a blizzard warning in Cumberland when they let us out of middle school early. Perplexing as we were boarding the bus in sunny, balmy weather. By the time I got home, the sky was black in the west, like a wall cloud in summer. We ended up with a few inches in the valley but the Appalachians scored big. And the wind was as advertised. Also remember a frontal passage in November 1995 that dropped some accumulating snow behind the front when I was living in College Park. Dramatic temperature drop that day also.
  7. lol I guess if BristowWx is purchasing his prime rib in kg, it changes the equation. But my recipe says 5 minutes per pound.
  8. I take the meat out of the refrigerator and let it sit for up to 2 hours before cooking it, until it reaches room temperature. Then multiply the weight of the cut by 5 to determine how many minutes to cook it at 500 degrees. After that much time, turn the oven off and keep the oven door closed for about another two hours. That should get the internal temperature where you want it for medium-rare.
  9. 06Z 12k NAM has 3.62" of liquid falling tomorrow at MRB. Ends as a dusting of snow. Gotta love the NAM in its wheelhouse. 06Z GFS drops a little over an inch of snow accumulation at the end after an inch of rain.
  10. 12Z GFS has a 20-degree drop in one hour Thursday night. The 12Z NAM has a 22-degree drop. Not sure I have ever seen that with a frontal passage, outside of the mountains.
  11. Hopefully it's got the right idea in the long range.
  12. 06Z NAM says the temperature here falls 22 degrees in one hour from 10:00-11:00 p.m. Christmas Eve.
  13. Light rain and 35°. Fifth day of snow cover, now down to a depth of 4”.
  14. Those were from memory. But if you really want to spend some time, this site has climate records from thousands of stations in the US: Utah MAPS - Utah Climate Center (usu.edu) 1. find a station (you can enter a town and a map will show you the stations on record) 2. customize your report (make sure to select English, unless you want the metric conversion) 3. download an Excel file (they will ask for an email, but reports are generated quickly.)
  15. BWI had 6"+ on Christmas day 1969. About 6" on New Years Day in 1971. Around 5" on 12/27/1990.
  16. Even if its been opened, it should last at least a year if its been kept refrigerated. If there is any organic growth on it (like mold) or if it has a strong smell like wine, you need to toss it.
  17. The trails at Whitetail Resort are no longer visible from my front yard. Impatiently waiting for the snow to reach the ground. 28 degrees.
  18. I remember Gary’s model rundowns well. I think I have his posts during the lead up to that storm saved on a disk somewhere. Always a valued read when model runs took so long to view on dial-up. Shame the guy was always pressed for time
  19. I was traveling on business the week of the ‘96 event. On Thursday afternoon I checked into a motel in Lancaster, PA and flipped on the TV to find PSU’s “Weather World” broadcast. They put up a weekend forecast map of the mid-Atlantic centered on PA that had graphics laid across the whole area that read “BIG SNOWS” in all-caps. They were forecasting 1-2’. Way ahead of NWS on that storm. Friday afternoon I was leaving Seacaucus, NJ wrapping up the trip and saw a bank thermometer that read 3°. That’s when I knew we might be in great shape.
  20. We had a blast enjoying the storm together. It was a much bigger snow than the one the day we got married. We had planned to go out for dinner but the snow worked out better.
  21. Light snow with larger flakes now. Snow on snow in December doesn’t happen all that often.
  22. Getting a few tiny flakes. Wasn’t expecting it. High of 34 today.
