I’m going to be totally honest, whatever Mag said in his post, I agree with 100%. Thing I’m interested in is the front end precip arriving early with the high in a good position to maximize the snowfall before any flip in the Sus Valley. We’ve seen this before back in the winters of 13-14 and 14-15. This has a similar feel. Wouldn’t be surprised if areas hung on to snow longer than expected, thus grabbing an inch or two more than forecast. Great event for mid November no matter the final outcome.
.Good to see you here. How’s life in Midland?

I’m liking that front end thump too.
Saw that a lot in 2013-2014. Always over performed.

Harrisburg had 8.5” on Oct 26 a few years ago. It can definitely pile up here.

Unfortunately that is a wise choice. HP in NE would help CCB into eastern locals early in the game, but verbatim the evolution is wonky, and we lose the critical levels until the UUL pops and wind/levels again become more favorable. I'd pay with all of the moolah in Sauss's wallet for this to happen in a few weeks from now when December is rockin, cause this would likely lay down the goods.
That $4.74 isn't going to get you much of a snowstorm (remember he has a daughter in college!).
I like MDT to get 1.5" of snow/sleet mix. Falling as the sun sets only makes it more fun. If you're north, say State College and up, you probably end up with a plowable snowfall.
Giddy up, kids!

Lol. Shenandoah Valley. Did we take Winchester and lump them in with us over the summer?
They wish.

I think Thursday morning might be a messy commute for most of us.

Money shot incoming on the GFS. CLASSIC early season track for next Tuesday....wowzers.
verbatim, SE Pa on sideline, but the rest of the forum...enjoy. I'll be watching.
Can we keep the cold air in place? That's the billion snowshovel question.

Per the USGS site (I'm not home yet) approximately 1.90" for yesterday in Tamaqua...
You were in Bogata - my mother was born there. That’s one of the most out-of-the-way, why-the-hell-does-anyone-live-here places in this country.

With 1.49" rain through 9:05 pm, Harrisburg's total precipitation for 2018 has reached 54.26". As a result, 2018 surpasses 1975, when 54.22" precipitation was recorded, to become Harrisburg's 5th wettest year on record.
MDT added an additional .5” between 9 p.m. and midnight to finish the day at 1.96”.

So not much activity in my thread, but gfs was showing a couple of possible winter weather threats late next week.
always exciting to start tracking the first threats of the year.
Yea looks like we can start tracking late next week - probably for naught but it beats the summer!

Houston sucks. Pearland is strip mall hell. UGH.
Might get upper 70s today. Record high for KMDT today is 84 back in 1950, that's crazy hot.

I know. But hey, we need the rain. It hasn't rained in what? Two days? Things are starting to dry out...
Haha. When you were there in Pasadena, you were about 3 miles from my brother's home.

LOL I was just going to post thank goodness this was not a winter NorEatern the radar looks lame to me. And many would be calling this a bust right now things are shifting east and weaker
Yea we might miss all the wind and end less than 1”. That’d be a pretty big bust of it we’re 20 degrees colder.

I LOVE that map above and its “35-100 inches” zone.

So my parents are on a cruise ship that is scheduled to dock in Cape Liberty tomorrow morning. They're flying out "supposedly" at 3 p.m. from EWR.
With those winds - and not knowing Cape Liberty's port setup - can they actually dock a massive cruise ship in those projected winds?

In fact, here is that Cantore thunder snow live shot. It's worth watching.

looks like rain from sometime Friday evening right through Monday. Wet and raw in the low 40s.
The 2011 event, MDT official was 9.7. it had quite a cutoff too. South and east was much better then west. i only recorded 3". Wasn't someone from the weather channel in Harrisburg for this event?
And i agree with Mag, the rest of that winter sucked. We only had a handful of events with Saturday January 21st, 5.25" as the biggest. i only recorded 13.25 for the season.
Saturday should make for an interesting time in Happy Valley. Glad i don't have tickets for that game, 330 kickoff
Jim Cantore was at the capitol - broadcasting from the fountain. He was doing a live shot when a clap of thunder sounded and he, of course, went nuts.
I remember that storm very well because my parents were here visiting and had never seen more than 2" of snow. IIRC Harrisburg proper had 5.5". That gradient across the river was really something.

I have a very hard time believing that a nor'easter is going to develop in marginally cold air in October and not drop a ****load of concrete on folks 100 or so miles west of the centre. I just keep thinking it's October 29, 2011 all over again.
Isn't the problem here temps moderate quite a bit out ahead and since it can't usher in true arctic air it'll now allow so much of a concrete mess?
-
Damn look at this nor'easter on the GFS. Holy smokes if it were January we might all faint.
