  1. Wow ok finally my temp has skyrocketed in the last 30 minutes, went from freezing to 38 in 30 minutes. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  2. A lot of new power outages in Rhea, Meigs and Cumberland Volunteer Energy counties this morning, I'm really concerned about wind picking up today. If we can't get above freezing. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  3. I went to bed really late last night, just getting up and I'm stunned that it's still freezing rain and 32. This is insane, but kind of the way I tend to think of ice storms, they are stubborn. I half expected it to be tropical this morning from some of the models. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  4. I'm really unsure how long I'll be holding at 32, I sort of expected to see temps begin climbing fast after midnight but still getting freezing rain. Trees have a good bit of droop. Hoping it doesn't get stuck all night right at freezing. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  5. Sitting right at 32 here now. Fortunately, as there is a good coating here. Can hear tree limbs in the woods around my house occasionally make the cracking sound you often hear in ice storms. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  6. Just looked at surface reports and looks like CAD maybe developing now as there is freezing rain reports in NE Georgia near Clayton. Should creep west along the bottom of the mountains. Will be interesting to see if it can get back west all the way to NW GA and start bleeding into southern valley.
  7. Definitely got a healthy glaze occurring, trees are shiny in the light. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  8. Yep curious as well moving the direction it is would think like a warm front almost, but not sure definitely stands out on animated radar.
  9. Haven't looked around the region in terms of temps and wind on PWS but has CAD set up in North Georgia yet? Maybe it has and is bleeding into the valley?
  10. An interesting feature picked up on both Hytop and Old Hickory radars. Straight line slowly rising NNW. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  11. I've not risen above 28 here on Meigs/Roane line area today which is what I'm currently sitting at, I am getting accretion on elevated objects, including trees. For pavement it's interesting I have 2 concrete patios one south facing get sun every day in winter, and the other north facing only gets indirect sun in winter. The south facing is just wet and the north facing is a sheet of ice. So from that I would bet the roads may be similar areas that are shaded by ridges and thick forested areas those areas where snow normally lingers will be icy or at least quicker to get icy compared to other areas. I have about a .10 to .15 of an inch of accretion though on elevated objects. Holly bushes are sagging under the weight already as their leaves are bearing more weight than trees without leaves. 12. It is when rates fall it switches to freezing rain and drizzle, then switches to almost 100% sleet when rate increases. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  13. Moderate sleet now under 30+ db returns. It's loud as I am surrounded by woods and can hear the sleet hitting the forest floor of leaves. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  14. In heavier echos now I seem to switch to primarily sleet but still some flakes mixed in but no freezing rain. Only time I get liquid freezing precip is in light or no returns on radar and it is probably more accurate to call it freezing drizzle in those moments. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  15. What seems to be occurring for me so far is snow when it's heavier precip, and freezing rain sleet mix when lighter precip. Getting sleet and freezing rain now but a heavier echo is moving in will see if it goes back to snow. I know at some point going to lose the snow all together. 16. Yep good enough clip that it's helping to turn everything white faster now. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  17. Finally getting bigger flakes! Some quarters, first time had only been graupel and tiny flakes until now. Awesome, I thought I might not see larger flakes with this storm. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  18. I've been in a lull for a while here on the Meigs/Roane line for the last hour or so after getting a dusting of snow earlier. Now in the lull with no real returns over me I'm now getting light sleet mixed with freezing drizzle. Wondering what happens as heavier returns move back in in the next 20 min or so. Temp stable at 26 for the last few hours. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  19. It takes a little bit. I've got a dusting now on the Roane/Meigs line area. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  20. I don't think you are being a downer at all, I would really rather not have a huge ice storm. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  21. These wide differences is partly why I don't trust the huge surface warming and think it might be over done. The other part is just climatology and frequency of occurrence. While big dramatic warmups have happened they are just less common in general. Usually if a warm up does occur it's usually like what the GFS is advertising with a degree or 2 above freezing, rarely a 20+ degree rise during warm nose. It may actually happen but my gut tells me this is over done, and my gut also tells me this low goes further east before shooting NE. One thing I do know the wild animals know something is up. Today I saw 10 deer on the move together across the back of my property, in over 20 years here I've never seen that many moving together as a herd on my property. I also saw several squirrels out digging up some of their cached acorns, even a couple chipmunks which this time of the year I don't normally see so much activity all in the same day. The wild animals know something is moving in and they are preparing. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  22. Yeah same here front appears to have passed me just before 2pm, wind shifted out of N and NW and since 2 pm my weather station has had steady falling temp. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  23. @TellicoWx "On lunch, but looked back at old photos. Took a pic of my little girl in Madisonville with trees down behind her and everything coated in about .25" of ice...timestamp says Feb 18, 2015. This setup has been reminding me of it for several days. Large part of county lost power for almost a week. It really stands out now, due to same wording was used then, as MRX is using now for Monroe Co. (We were excluded then from Ice Storm Warning and alot of residents let their guard down). There is a ridge between Tellico and Madisonville that seems to bank the downslope winds back toward Tellico...prolongs the cold air retreat NW of there. Forecast all the way until the event started was WWA (less than 0.10"). CAMs resolution doesn't pick this ridge up well...I know of their current projection map, they seem to have forgot this. Hopefully I'm wrong." Yeah they really should have included NW Monroe in the warning for sure. It's interesting you mentioned 2015 I remember that storm well I think if I remember it correctly it came on the heels of a snow or it snowed after by a few days. For me it was only about a quarter inch and it took down 4 pine trees on my property, and I was without power for a few days. Though there were people just a few miles away that it took a week to restore power. It's incredible how much damage just quarter inch can do especially with pine and cedar trees. Once coated even light breezes get them cracking and uprooting. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro XL using Tapatalk
  24. Could play out that way, but I'm personally skeptical of the surface warming for areas especially north of Hamilton and Bradley counties. We've had these scenarios especially in the 90's when it seemed like we had many ice storms that decade in the valley where it was supposed to warm after several hours of ice only for the cold to lock in and remain stubborn. If that happens this could truly be a devastating ice storm even historic potentially for the area. I would prepare as though it will be really bad better to be over prepared than not. I think folks should prepare for backup power and/or heat at the very least. The window to prepare is getting smaller. I'm not saying do the buy out the store type stuff, but just have a plan to deal with no power and no heat for an extended period of time especially folks in more rural and or heavily wooded areas and even wooded subdivisions.
