TN valley heavy rain/flooding week of Feb 17th

I bet as the week goes on we are going to see more rock slides and highway slides. So much water has undercut rock above roads and under roadways that both occurrences I think will tick up. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

TN valley heavy rain/flooding week of Feb 17th

.72 Friday night IMBY on the Tennessee River on Watts Bar Lake. So far today .87 looking as though will end probably around 1.5 by morning looking at rates. Creeks are running high, going to be an interesting week. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

Half inch here and just small dry flakes now on the back edge, but radar show some redevelopment over Rhea and Bledsoe county of light returns. Might keep it going if I'm lucky. Down to 29. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

Ok awesome that is a better orientation for getting moisture advection up the valley I believe from previous similar scenarios. I think if that occurs and plus any redevelopment behind the main line we might be able to squeeze out at least an inch or so. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

That orientation looks better on the last frame of your gif. Is that 18Z or 0Z? Haven't been able to get a look at models in a while just watching OBS. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

I believe the cold is moving faster than the precip though now. Starting to get snow on the radar just east of Paducah. Getting closer to Clarksville. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

I'll consider it a win if I can get an inch! I haven't had 1 inch or more from a single storm in 2 years. I'm going to hold out hope and go down with the ship clinging to my back edge flurries for dear life! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

As the crow flies about 20 miles actually from that freezing temps to the back edge. That is a quick improvement from from 50 to 100 miles from this afternoon. That cold is trucking. Hopefully it will over take the precip. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

Surface subfreezing is making headway, Owensboro Kentucky is just 25 or so miles away from returns and down to 32. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

If WPC guidance is .1 to .4 qpf with higher ratios their forecast to me is fairly sound for amounts. Chop those in half and apply ratios and it is likely most see at least an inch on top of flash freeze of rain water. Roads will be really bad especially secondary roads and rural areas. No one will rise above freezing tomorrow, probably not until Thursday afternoon. I expect there will be school systems that will be closed until Friday believe it or not. I'm hopeful for the disturbance Wednesday as well, with the crazy cold every tiny bit of moisture rung out might be a nice little disturbance for I40 corridor north. Think once this front is passed models will have a better handle on that disturbance.

I'm running with the RAP, HRRR, and RGEM until they show nada, they all look pretty good for 1 to 3 in the Eastern Valley. FV3 is nice if it were trustworthy, lol 5" (kuchera) TYS. We have Diurnal minimums to help in the eastern valley as well.

I love the RGEM at this range, looks very similar to the RAP.

Latest RAP shows snow beginning around 8Z around Chattanooga and coming up the eastern valley with light snow still continuing at 13Z. Some of what the RAP shows is Moderate snows. The RAP and HRRR seem to be holding steady at the moment on snow in the Eastern Valley.

Looks like right now the surface sub freezing line is lagging about 50 to 100 miles behind precip. It'll be interesting today to watch it catch up to precip, well hopefully... lol
