  1. First day of Winter, it was my fathers birthday (would have been 94yrs young) very appropriate! Yesterday I was discharged for the 6th time this year from the hospital. The little trip "home" caused clots to form, swelling of my lower limbs with discoloration and a little heart murmur, a killer cold contracted by one of my g-nephews or nieces. Throw in anything else one can think of... yet it was time to visit. Thinking now my days are numbered (family visit, a forum gtg) for the holidays would have made this a special year. The famdamily...LOL The best brother and sisters one could ever wish for.
  2. Beyond Sick. It's not a street vehicle, whole lots of nasty fun!
  3. Not affiliated with a conference or a regional gtg. Inevitably "those" seem to crash and burn under confusion and opinion of preference. Thread was started to nail-down date ONLY, PERIOD. NO debate over LOCATION. Would have been nice. I did fly up for Thanksgiving. Seeing all the great-nephews and nieces, some for the first time, my four siblings all in one place for the first time in three years. I personally don't know how many of these I have left given deteriorating health. Was planning on driving-up but one thing I noticed was the volume of traffic is absolutely horrendous. Time of year combined risking "the other drivers skills" and putting the Trackhawk into situational driving events is just not worth the risk. With that said I'm withdrawing my participation. Maybe next year god willing.
  4. My mind has started playing tricks. My bad, in starting the thread was thinking Friday would be a better option. The Monday option only leaves one viable choice of the 17th, the 10th is to early IMO. Regarding the Friday option- there are two dates that work. VOTE 21ST!!!
  5. Whatever date or location is okay. Any later or earlier I'll be unable to attend (topic specific to Clarke's) IMO location should be firm it's because of personal logistics to be worked out. T-day I'm flying up, Xmas-NY I'm driving and confined to an approx. two-week window. Maybe start another thread for some-other gtg not related to tradition. Whatever is decided collectively.
  6. The Holiday gtg is unique in the first was very last-minute and turned out it worked. Traditions are tough to change (like going to a sisters of brothers house instead of parents for family festivities) If change is warranted as to garner a larger turn-out I'm all for it but maybe a later or earlier date. Left corner at Clarke's is comfortable with good juju!
  7. Radar returns has an appearance of a wall of snow. Confirmed by obs. Damn, sure wish I were there for this. Dumpage of yore! LOL Td's here have finally dropped below 60F. Winter temps by morning
  8. Homegrown. Made it using photoshop. Snow-depth valid Sat morning.
  9. Could be right could be wrong. It's not the end of the world. A GOOD START anyway you slice it!
  10. That's exactly what I was thinking. Previous years were on Friday's intended for those working in Beantown. First year there where only a-half dozen attendees. Open to all but I think the date should be kept on Friday just MHO.
  11. If memory serves correct the gathering was last-minute weekday (after work deal). The Friday Night idea would be a pseudo weeknight, week-end deal. My problem is traveling. I want to do Thanksgiving and still might fly for a day or three. Christmas is more chaotic and for many, well to many commitments. Any-day, anytime. Maybe options (voting) for firm date should be several days. Thinking of driving up so any date will do just needs to be collectively decided.
  12. And so it begins, time to hone skills (I have none) LOL Fun to watch the models evolve. Personally I'd go climo especially early and late season events. I did give notice on FB of the possibility of snow back on the 8th. I'm really going to try to go conservative in amounts this year especially on early calls.
  13. Starting a topic (Clarke's) on the impromptu last-minute GTG for the Holidays. It has morphed into the most consistent annual gatherings. The only question is the Date: Weekend Friday night of the 14th or 21st? There is much to get caught-up to. Renew friendships, make and meet new. http://www.clarkesboston.com/
  14. The damage is reminisce of Andrew. Drove through Homestead on 1A down to the Keys (chasing tail) a year after landfall, an area of about 4-5miles just stripped of not only trees, palms but structures gone. Scary sh*t. Being now in the game and brushed the past few years has me second guessing wanting to experience a Major!
  15. Always in the RFQ. EF0's spin-up/down with little or no warning GRL2 comes in mighty handy. Now with power guaranteed through-out storm duration. Can't wait till the day comes I'm sitting outside taking a dip and watching TV with 1200W of speakers blasting across the hood. Neighbors are going to love it. LOL
  16. Well I'm loaded for bear. Final inspection on the Generator today, full tank of propane. 1 yr start to finish! mostly my fault. Now have peace of mind. Michael "should" have only fringe effects this far E - brief fast moving squalls with occasional gusts in the 30-40mph range. Subject to change of course, not liking the RI with a modeled slow down in movement. The interaction with a lifting trough, slackening of shear "should" keep track more toward the N and W. The effects as a mid-latitude cyclone tracking to the benchmark will be dependent on how intense and how long he holds on to tropical characteristics. Coastal winds for sure but the rain-shield will be far displaced to the N and E. Kind of a meh with rainfall QPF resulting from frontal boundary with some training.
  17. I'd be there in a heartbeat Paul if I lived closer. Will attend the annual impromptu O'Roukes (Fanny Hall) Holiday gathering. Time flies and has been two years since last visit to the fam-damly. Don't know how many left so God willing here-on-out is mandatory. (edit)(edit) Gonna hold you to getting signature. Future Director of NWS.
  18. NCEP Hurricane Models have it. http://mag.ncep.noaa.gov/tropical-guidance-model-storm.php
  19. Intensity you know is the last feature, parameter to be forecast correctly. Gulf stream waters around 90F are pretty deep and close to the coast. It's an unknown so leave at that.
  20. Disagree Ray. Combine hvy rainfall with steady TS force with even a few gusts to hurricane force will still cause widespread power outages. Once one gets beyond D3 without power is becomes life-threatening. It's not going to be an Andrew (flatten countryside) at least not modeled presently so in that regard I agree. QPF is going to be historic if the drift comes to pass.
  21. So Florence is moving 3 tics W 1 tic N. SC is where she goes I mean blows, wait, ah fagget-a-bout it. If fact to the left of guidance since W track took over. A MONSTER!
  22. No need to chase with it trending to my back-yard. Tic-tic-tic with each run S and W. (not cool whatsoever) Hoping for intensification to get Flo to go poleward and thinking Outer Banks to the N extent down to GA/SC border to the S. Just to far out to predict exact track, heck could be inside 24h and still left with a best guess scenario.
  23. Starting to get that feel of foreboding doom. Piqued interest simply because ensemble members are ticking further S and W. Where or (if) is landfall. Safe to state threat level increasing with each passing hour and model run. After Irma I purchased a Generac 22kW beauty, propane driven. Very disappointed with the install process, it sits still needing electrical work. Health issues over the past year has had me in/out of the hospital so I take 80% blame for delay. Received a letter from CFPE (Electric contractor for Lowe's and Generac) soon as I read the letter I'm on the horn trying to explain the events and situation. The worst customer service woman I've ever encountered. She had already decided to cancel the companies involvement. I could not get a word in so I called Lowe's back to try to get straightened-out since I hung-up yelling at the Rep. Permit was only god for six months so had to start the process in mid-install. Sept 30 is now the appointed date for CFPE to complete install. Why do I have the feeling this is far from being installed. Thinking I need a good local electrician to finally put to rest. What up with that Outer Banks loopy-loop? Strong block and becoming stronger! All will change, fun to watch evolve with great interest.
