Nope, but I did actually find some pretty cool rocks. You would think it would be pretty well picked through but as people dig more is opened up.

As a kid I was a rock collector. In the early summer we would take a trip to this place. I think I was more excited about seeing snow than finding a piece of pyrite (maybe even gold). Snow would last a long time in those caves. https://www.rugglesmine.net/

Every year or two I see a nice straight dry one next to a trail and say what the hell why not? Split one or two rounds and then drive the rest back into the forest and throw it off the trailer. Sometimes I just don't learn...

Interesting article on elm trees. Apparently they can grow bigger and live longer than I thought. They rarely last longer than 50 years however. They also classify them as "avoiders" or "survivors" . I found one today that is 21 inches in diameter. Here's the tree, the one in the middle of the ATV. There's an axe at the bottom that measures 32 inches to give an idea of height.

Unfortunately the elm is now dead. Survived the Dutch elm disease for all those years and then the gypsy moths got it.

I've had some weird one-off trees in my woods. Huge elm tree unaffected by Dutch elm disease.

It's in an area where lots of shoots try to grow. At one time I think the area was all chestnuts. I'll grab a picture Yep, nastiest of the year. 75/72

Of course I have a tree question for you. While hunting oaks today I ran across a healthy American chestnut about 30 ft tall and 10 inches in diameter. Certainly an outlier for me. They usually die much smaller. What do you find up in your neck of the woods?
