  1. 74 and nice and cool In belchertown. Happy 4th everyone.
  2. More than likely White Pine Needle Disease or WPND. Although you're apt to see more dead pines near water.
  3. Why don't you two find yourselves a nice cozy sauna? You can sweat together in privacy.
  4. Prepping. Getting this sawed up while it's still coolish. Each piece is about 8 ft around. Should keep me busy for a couple of the hot days without having to pick up the saw .
  5. I hate to admit it but it took me a second with the swamp picture.
  6. Winds should be good after traversing 2,000 miles of land. Gusts to 150?
  7. Not much interesting weather to be had these days. You know it's bad when Kevin can't even stir something up. Snoozefest.
  8. Nope, but I did actually find some pretty cool rocks. You would think it would be pretty well picked through but as people dig more is opened up.
  9. As a kid I was a rock collector. In the early summer we would take a trip to this place. I think I was more excited about seeing snow than finding a piece of pyrite (maybe even gold). Snow would last a long time in those caves. https://www.rugglesmine.net/
  10. You say that every year. But weirdly I kind of agree. It's been a while and everything seems in place.
  11. Every year or two I see a nice straight dry one next to a trail and say what the hell why not? Split one or two rounds and then drive the rest back into the forest and throw it off the trailer. Sometimes I just don't learn...
  12. Oooh I may have to reinstall.
  13. Pretty much record territory for this time of year.
  14. It has no redeeming qualities. None. If they were the only trees in my forest I would bury my saws.
  15. That's some heavy rain! Do you attribute this to global warming?
  16. Interesting article on elm trees. Apparently they can grow bigger and live longer than I thought. They rarely last longer than 50 years however. They also classify them as "avoiders" or "survivors" . I found one today that is 21 inches in diameter. Would have to believe it's older than 50 years. https://www.nature.org/en-us/about-us/where-we-work/united-states/vermont/stories-in-vermont/largest-elm-tree-restoration-in-the-northeast/
  17. Thank God. Anyone who enjoys this weather raise your stupid little hands.
  18. Here's the tree, the one in the middle of the ATV. There's an axe at the bottom that measures 32 inches to give an idea of height.
  19. Unfortunately the elm is now dead. Survived the Dutch elm disease for all those years and then the gypsy moths got it.
  20. "A more intense round of showers and thunderstorms is expected this afternoon and evening. These storms could produce strong to damaging straight-line winds, large hail, downpours, and perhaps even an isolated tornado. The time period of greatest concern is 2-10 PM." Let's do it...
  21. I've had some weird one-off trees in my woods. Huge elm tree unaffected by Dutch elm disease.
