  1. Yeah it would have been difficult. My main goal was to arrive before it was dark, and I had just made it. Most of the drive was fine, and it was basically white rain in Cumberland and Keyser, but then it got treacherous above 2000 ft, especially around route 48. Thankfully my snow tires made it easy for me.
  2. Right around 5:30pm when I measured 1.5" So that makes it 4.5" in the last 3 hours, and it was really coming down a few hours ago. Great storm.
  3. Pretty good storm in Thomas, WV. 6" so far, temp 25 degrees.
  4. I'm also going to check out Timberline... never skied there before but with their improvements it should be a fun experience. Although not everything is open, I think conditions should be great after tonight.
  5. I've decided to go to Thomas, WV. It is near Davis and it should be a great spot for this storm.
  6. Let's just lock this up, what a glorious run.
  7. Ok, this might be worth staying up for. Incredible for whoever will get that.
  8. I think the average person tolerates snow as long as it doesn’t disrupt their life, especially their work or commute. There are some who absolutely hate the sight of all things winter, but I doubt that they’re the majority.
  9. For me it has to be a very big storm (MECS or HECS) to be worth staying up. I got up super early in January 2016, barely had any sleep, but still managed to enjoy the whole thing up until the very end.
  10. If it happens at rush hour and causes extra hazards, then maybe. But it looks like the snow should mostly be over by then.
  11. They have Canaan Valley resort and a much improved Timberline. I was at Canaan a few years ago, and it's a great place on a powder day.
  12. It's making a drive out west very tempting for me.
  13. I like the RGEM a lot better... that would be just about perfect. I try to enjoy the small ones but that half inch on the GFS is pushing it for me The RGEM seems to have a weaker initial NS disturbance on the H5 maps compared to the GFS, so we really need that to weaken.
  14. I am thinking of heading to Canaan Valley. Not sure yet, and it will be very cold. But I'm considering it, especially if it's going to be a solid 6"+.
  15. Yeah that run looks great for those of you down south.
  16. It will basically be a repeat of yesterday for me, except it will actually stick to the paved surfaces. That is, unless it diminishes to a cartopper or dusting.
  17. Too early to panic. Nothing is set in stone, not even close.
  18. I hate to say this but some of the blame falls on certain local forecasters, including Tommy T. He called for no more than 3-5" anywhere west of the bay. Most people probably assume that is manageable to drive. It certainly is a far cry from getting a 8-12" in 5 hours, which is what actually happened. I've also heard of someone with a relative in Dover who was told 4-6". Ended up with 11".
  19. I hope so, but I am skeptical. That Euro scenario with the strung out mess can't be dismissed, especially in a Nina. Hopefully the initial system is robust like the GFS shows.
  20. I think just about all of us who were fringed yesterday want to lock up what the GFS is offering.
  21. Snow pics are an essential part of the wx board experience when any of us gets a storm. Anyone within the region who wants to share his or her joy should feel free and never hesitate. Even if psuhoffman is the only one who gets a big storm, I’d love to see what he got. Anyone who feels offended by someone else’s snow pics is probably too much of a snowflake (haha see what I did there) to post here. But I don’t know of any regular who is like that, maybe that weenie tagged DCAlexandria troll? Yeah some people will get jealous, and chances are they are joking, but if not then that’s their damn problem.
  22. Yeah I later looked at the maps more closely and figured that it's probably more of a hybrid, which often works fine for our area.
  23. Imagine the mood here if this is a 1-3” event for DC and Baltimore, only for it to bomb out further north and drop 8-12”+ from Philly to Boston. We all know a Miller B can do that.
