That line headed our way (DC area) is looking healthy. No outflow or signs of collapsing. Let's get it.

I've been running my sprinkler out on a quiet piece of land on my elderly neighbors property. It gives the critters water and fresh healthy vegetation to eat. Totally clear sky here all day. To my South and west I've been watching building clouds. Radar is looking a little better, I guess.

It stresses me out seeing everything in nature stressed out. Even the native plants in the forest floor are all wilted and stressed. The animals must be starting to get stressed as well. The deer are bed down in the deep forest. The forest even sounds quiet right now. Come on rain.

2024 Mid-Atlantic Garden, Lawn, and Other Green Stuff Thread
dailylurker replied to mattie g's topic in Mid Atlantic
As most gardeners know, the blight and fungal diseases are here and they are attacking hard. I've started the battle last night with my first application of Crop Defender 3. Crop Defender is a fungicide and pesticide combination. It's OMRI certified organic and it's bad ass. I've been using it on my cannabis grows during the winter in my greenhouse, and on my outdoor cannabis plants this season. I've recently applied it to my vegetable garden. So far the early blight on my tomato plants has been stopped in it's tracks. It's not cheap, but it works. Crop Defender 3 -
I just commented in the observation thread how their seems to be some rising motion in the clouds already.

Looks like a more typical sky today. The low clouds from earlier are now mid level clouds, but they seem to actually have a rising motion for once. 90/80 Incredible

Could you still post my morning updates? I need someone besides Justin Berk that says is going to rain everyday lol. Enjoy your trip. 82 with foggy windows. Fingers crossed we get a solid line of storms later on.

Tomato plants, cucumber, zucchini are getting fried pretty badly. I'm going to replant the garden in a couple weeks. Growing season goes into Nov in our new climo, so why not. 99/79 with no chance of rain any time soon. Just waiting on water restrictions to shut my business down. Looks like the same places that just had rain are getting more. DC area can't catch a break.

I did a 4 mile hike last evening in a mature forest. It amazed me how stressed the native plants and scrubs are. Even some larger trees like dog woods were wilted. Streams aren't running and the forest sounded unusually silent. Looks like extreme heat and drought is the theme of this summer.

I hope the latest GFS isn't right. It has a big precipitation hole right over central MD. Southern VA get swamped while we get pitty sprinkles and showers. I'm sure it will be totally different in 6 hours.
-
It's been brutally hot and dry this summer. My cannabis plants seem to actually like the hot days and short hot nights. They do need ample water and mulching, but they don't seem to mind temps over 100.
-
Looks like the gfs still has that soaking rain event later this week. Fingers crossed it holds.

Fantastic! It's awesome you're getting out there and living life. Definitely keep us updated! Thanks for the vibe report. You described it well.

Another boring weather day. I miss afternoon thunderstorms. It's one of the things I enjoy about the warm season. I even remember watching the clouds build in the afternoon when I'd be at the pool. Then the whistle blow to clear the pool because thunder was heard. This summer is just brutal and dry.
-
Yup. Lots of it. I love seeing forecast for "record warmth" lol

I'm staying with friends for the weekend. I'm 6 miles inland from Fenwick Island. It's brutally hot with extreme DP's near 80. Come on fall! I'm ready for our other base state to return lol
-
Brutally dry here. The farms in my area have total crop loss, bushes, shrubs and small trees are starting die. My neighbors apple tree looks like it's about to give up. Missing the rain over the weekend was the difference between losing and saving the years crop for farmers. I hope they have crop insurance.
-
Sounds like just about everywhere got good rain except the DC area. Incredibly dry here.
-
That was a very impressive screw job this weekend. I didn't get any rain at all. Now on to the hot dry wind and no rain in site.
-
It just seems like something is inhibiting anything from really taking off. Outflow boundaries are being lame, storms aren't growing in coverage, ect. I hear a few rumbles from a storm that's missing me to the NE. It just started making noise. The outflow is blowing through now cooling off temperatures. It's pretty crispy here.

I think that's the highest I've ever seen. Maybe cracked 80 once. The cap is definitely breaking. I'm seeing lots of lift in the clouds.

Blue sky here and purely tropical. Temperature is 95 and the dewpoint is 78. If that isn't enough for storms I don’t know what is.

It's amazing how dry it is, yet it's tropical rainforest humid. Still can't buy a drop of rain with DP near 80 lol

Not a single drop. Looks like nothing today either. Crazy how half the state is flooded while the DC area goes into serious drought.
