eaglesin2011
Mostly snow glob snow for the RVA area later today …looks like the rain is going to hold on a little longer all the way & into the Philly area/surface temps even warm still up there..…I would expect still some blizzard conditions around there but the real high snow totals prob won’t be crazy until you get into Mid NJ /NY /Mass area especially because the storm getting up that way at night.
ldub23
The change to snow should start soon here. You can see the clouds now have that solid milky gray instead of broken

eaglesin2011
Hours to go yet in the RVA area for any real snow .. Temps have actually gone up still 4O degrees last time I looked .. Will be cool to see the heavy snow later after 6pm .. but prob won’t last that long here since we will be right on the back edge as the storm pulls away….

Wakefield actually has RVA proper at forecasted at 1.7 inches -highest they've had so far
D-Money
Latest HRRR sim radar there is only a couple hours of decent snow for RVA. p-type DGZ The DGZ is a favored thermal range within the cloud-bearing layer for ice crystal or dendritic growth. The depth of the DGZ is calculated as the total depth of the thermal profile that falls within this -12°C to -17°C range.
mikeeng92
Rain and snow now. Bands redeveloping over central VA. Will be a fun afternoon evening. Storm is still turning negative now and to me looks like we will maximize our chances. 2

I grew up in South Jersey with these types of storms a lot of people that live away from the ocean don't understand how these storms wrap around like this. And they look at radar and say well nothing's happening it's not over running snow you can't try to look at radar and see what you think is going to happen. South Jersey already snowing heavily all the way to the beaches. Family is sending me videos radar is not even showing it really
mikeeng92
What I mean by maximize our chances is the models over the past couple days that gave Central VA the most snow had a fully phased storm with a tucked in low off the delmarva. That seems like its happening, we'll see if we can actually cash in. Probably not but someone in the RVA area might get 4" on the grass. My guess is Midlothian-West end Henrico- Western Hanover.

Will be impressive. nexrad is one of my favorite radars. It’s dumping on southern NJ. https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad/index.php?parms=DOX-N0Q-1-24-100-usa-rad

If they put 3 inches as they're high-end total for spots around here there's a reason why they are putting it so of course it has to backfill that's the whole point and why they made that forecast it's ridiculous now to even go back-and-forth about this cause we're all gonna see. I did say a couple weeks ago with the clipper system that gave me almost 4 inches of snow when only 1 inch was forecasted and I really thought that would happen also and it did

wasnow215
It's where I grew up so I'm kind of rooting for them lol right near the beaches sometimes it's hard to get snow also-all right no more South Jersey reports lol does sound like the low pressure is getting wound up pretty fast and closer to the coast I'm reading on the other thread so that'could bear well for us with the pinwheel effect later on tonight

You’ll want to see silver dollar parachutes dumping. Then it’s just pile on city. Obviously soil temps are bad and we are hoping to be 32-33 degrees when it’s puking. But the chance for busting is high - moderate rates/34 F. Hoping for some surprising outcomes.
