An interesting thing could happen this month.  Unlikely, as it has literally never happened before, but we've hit 71 twice this month.  So far, that is our highest temperature, there's a cool period coming that will send us into late October.  Could we see 71 as our highest temperature of the month?  If we do that would be the lowest maximum temperature in October ever.  So, it is unlikely, but the pattern is holding pretty firm.

The 84 high in September is the lowest in that month since 2009.  So, some interesting streaks there.

Interesting, gives me deja vu. I think we almost set such a record in April 2020, only to have the second to last day of the month get too warm. But obviously the thing we have going for us in October that we don’t in April is that you’re not “supposed” to see the warmest temperatures late in the month.

Yeah, that's what works for us here.  We'll see.  I would be kind of surprised if 71 is the highest we get.  I'm also surprised that in all recorded weather history here there never has been an October that hasn't hit at least 72.

Verbatim, that does show measurable snow at PIT. I don’t see it happening, but even a tenth this early would be an extremely rare first measurable snowfall (10/18/1972 and 10/18-19/1992).

Yeah, that seems high area wide.  For not having any temps below freezing yet, you'd need a decent snow rate to get anything on the ground at this point.

So, the Gulf Coast will get freeze warnings before us?

In some Deep South locations, it’s close to the earliest instances on record of certain temperature thresholds. The exact wording of the warnings for portions of Mississippi and Alabama mention temperatures as low as 24.

Can't understand how we fail every time.  Dew points are mid 20s, but these clouds always seem to somehow pop up over the reporting station.  No reason we shouldn't have gotten down to 28, in my opinion.

Oh well, will still be a below average month overall.

The wind was probably the ingredient that screwed us out of a freeze, was 5-8mph out of the SSW pretty much all night.
