Read something about the first CME tonight maybe “destabilizing” (probably the wrong term) the skies (definitely the wrong term… ionosphere? Idk) and it could make the 2nd night more interesting. Sounded interesting to me.

Anyone Aurora tracking? Going to be down in Charlottesville this weekend - thinking of giving it a go tomorrow night, assuming the CME timing pans out. Still looks cloudy today.

Hurricane Helene: Remnants Impact to Mid-Atlantic
NorthArlington101 replied to WxUSAF's topic in Mid Atlantic
Pass. Have a Potomac River booze cruise tonight. I’m okay with drizzle… not so much the wrath of Helene -
Two TWs down in south-central VA. Totally missed the fact that storms were around the area (well, broadly) today.

We love to be a serious weather forum people rely on for tropical news but also spend 10 posts (I guess this one included) each time the 3k NAM, which we all know has zero tropical value, spits out a nuke…

Insane shelf in Staunton. Pics from the car doing a bad job.

Too bad there are all these clouds - would’ve been a good night to head west to see the aurora. Hoping for another good shot the next 1-2 years of solar maximum!

Ah... September. Often our first shot of digital snow. #getHYPED

Just peeked. RadarScope showing oodles of T&L over ya. Must be fun. Don’t feel like I’ve had a good light show yet this year.

Adore these days. Enjoying the moderate rain with occasional thunder in DC. Wouldn’t mind the more exciting storms but love the casual storminess too.

Looks like an intense storm… dumping rain at least. Little jealous.

Tropical Storm Debby: Mid-Atlantic Impacts

Nice-sized dead tree blocking the driveway of the AirBnB — might’ve sustained the worst damage on the forum! -
Reporting from Penn Yan, NY. It’s wet.

Up in the Finger Lakes this week - that’s a nasty band right through DC. Stay safe! -

There is a radar mode (idk the right term) that is scanning for the size of the stuff in the air. If it scans large things (like debris, big or small, leaves, houses, whatever) it shows noticeably on radar. At “big” enough debris it can also show on regular reflectivity. -
Wow, bolt basically out of the blue. Loud T&L. Looks like a decent storm blowing in again.

In Arlington right now - solid downpour. Car needed the wash.

Middleburg storm is trying hard to sustain itself but feel like it may not be enough. Was hoping to see cloud tops continuing to build up but seems to be struggling to hold around 30k.

We can’t do anything right! Other than heat and drought. And wind. So I guess we can’t do anything fun right

I don’t know anything about severe but it’s shocking to me how these storms seem to struggle to sustain once they pop with what I’m imagining is so much fuel.

Crazy for it to be this hot and not a single pop up storm out there right now.
-
Little pop-ups just to my west now - see if they bloom into anything. edit: nope - died
