    I’m seeing images in what I feel like are light-pollution heavy parts of Europe (e.g, Prague) that still look pretty good. Any chance the show is good enough that clouds are the only enemy?

    Getting close to locking in a trip to the Cville/Statunton area tonight. Aurora is finicky but thinking it could be worth the whirl. Vibes seem to be good.

    Yeah, Cville is my target if I go for it. Gonna keep an eye on it and make a late call. Would be trying to be back in the morning for a Mother’s Day brunch so don’t want to go if it’s gonna be a wash. I was thinking Afton Mountain, maybe.

    Thanks for making the thread! Very interested in seeing the aurora somewhat locally. Became a bucket list item after a few great local chasers caught them in the Blue Ridge last year. Really bummed by clouds tonight. Hoping for a miracle - don’t want to drive super far north and even then odds don’t look fantastic.

    Anyone debating an aurora chase tomorrow night? Tempted to go NW to the mountains if the forecast holds. edit: just saw the cloud cover forecast. Hopefully it last through Saturday night lol

    Man, the weather has been boring. How are we doing in here? Feel like I haven’t posted in forever… probably less than a month lol. We need to start thinking summer happy hour/BBQ. If nobody starts planning it soon I might have to try and step up.

    Thanks @WxWatcher007 ! Just assessing options… had my tropical vacation snatched away last minute by a series of unfortunate events. Might make sense to solo explore a city near here… or run up to NYC and find friends. Or a tornado!

    Anyone done proper Midwest storm chasing? My family vacation plans for May got disrupted but I’m still debating taking the time I had scheduled off for myself… I’m gonna be over my PTO allotment if I don’t use it soon. Trying to get a sense of the cost of existing as a storm chaser for a week - hotels, gas, rental car (with insurance, lmao). No idea if it’s worth the struggle but it strikes me as the kind of vacation that could work solo if I had to take a solo trip.

    was expecting the girlfriend to go -- offered to my mom to take her place and spare me a solo drive. She wasn't down w/ the sleeping arraignments... a single queen lol. that said, she ended up regretting not going. Working towards convincing them for a family (read: less expensive for me) Spain 2026 trip

    Unsurprisingly I think we took the same route back. I also got detoured into Youngstown. I guess we’ll never know if that was Waze being smart or too smart for its own good. It did good getting me off 270 for the 4th lane closure of the day.

    lessons for 2045 (writing these for myself) - cirrus clouds are fake - don’t worry about them. - probably want to spend the day before and the day after there - pre-eclipse traffic is fake. Post-eclipse traffic is more real - can watch from anywhere. Doesn’t matter where… just go - if you want to film a video to show others, try and avoid crying of awe in the background lol

    17 hours of driving in 36 hours later. Worth it - though I wouldn’t do it again if it was tomorrow haha
