  1. Hiked KMart today and mask usage on trail might have been 10%. And really that was 10% higher than it needed to be.
  2. On the whole though I agree with PFs and PBs sentiment. It'll be a full calendar year plus of having to roll with the punches, just gotta deal with what comes and appreciate whatever opportunities you have to be out in the snow. We're all in on uphill, lift served we're treating as bonus.
  3. Hell the science says that porous, stretchy fabrics (common to gaiters) actually increase transmission. And most actual ski masks literally have holes. I also disagree that most wear them. Maybe on the coldest days but not on the majority of days. Imagine skinning with a mask? LOL
  4. I'd say the beaches are about 50/50 masks during schlep down but I've not experienced dirty looks because I think deep down folks know it's dumb. To be fair packed beaches occurred much earlier on with more uncertainty. These days we have a whole summer sample size of minimal outdoor transmission to draw on. If there's a mask requirement on the hill it's purely for the optics.
  5. I'd like to see the science behind a mask requirement on the hill.
  6. The road over Independence Pass into Aspen is pretty sweet too. Did it before game 3 of the 2007 WS against the Rockies only a few days before it closed for the season. Very snowy at the 12k' sign. Near the top the road goes to basically 1 lane with no guard rail. It's awesome.
  7. Reports of damage and power outages in Granby/Btown on NWS Chat Cue Troy Brown... "Bingo!"
  8. Front edge kind of bowing out a little coming through this area. Got some heavy rain, briefly. Beard's hill might have had a decent gust.
  9. Just got home from the cape... Pouring the length of the pike, crazy lightning. Then all sorts of trees and branches and wires down through Palmer and S Belchertown. Roads closed had to detour several times. SILs in Ware no power and damage. Not quite as bad here by Quabbin however. Will have to review the radar data. Been an active couple months here.
  10. 9/11/13 is right up there with 7/22/11 IMO
  11. As usual Btown getting its daily downpour
  12. Would be nice but no. Some fam has been renting the same place every August for 30+ years. Great spot to relax, definitely on the quiet side at night. The lake speaks for itself of course, fishing/boating/swimming, and there are lots of sandy public beach areas facing all directions. On any given day you might rather be on one side or another. Definitely worth visiting, minor deduction for being inaccessible after 10/31.
  13. Frye Island is extremely dusty right now... A lap around the island gives you a thin layer of silt all over the car and the roadside vegetation is covered in a powdery coating. All the same, it turned into a pretty nice evening. Sun mostly out by about 230 and warmed up to mid 70s. Water about that too.
  14. One cell after another back built. Heavy rain and thunder
  15. hopefully he was able to procure ice for those IPAs
  16. While we are giving out plaudits and hazard pay, I'd like to thank the utility workers and dpw crews out there busting ass today. And their spouses at home with the kids trying to work remote, on down the line.
  17. For me had to be 12/1 @ the Beast after part 1 of the early Dec storm. 14"+ dense and just about everything in play. Bonus points for opening day, and for having huge snowmaking whales adding to the terrain. Silver goes to 2/13 @ Magic which started off with like 3" new on some crust but skied in great and before lunch we were ripping Magician, Goniff, and the Black Line at high speeds. Bronze to 2/7 @ Sugarbush.... 8" new and mid mountain skiing much better than upper mountain. Got acquainted with mogul trails off the Valley house chair and had a blast.
  18. Pico has what looks like a powerline cut lookers right from the summit down the fall line. I've always thought it looked appealing although seemed like a no no to try it. Maybe if it were uphill only... Anyone know what I am talking about?
  19. There's actually quite a bit of instability in the early afternoon above some capping. And shear profiles are already impressive, albeit not as impressive as later on with helicity going bonkers. At any rate several modes of severe in play... Conditional risk early, and later on who knows, probably with S CT favored.
