  1. Good post and graphics. Getting the MJO to phase 7 will cure a piece of our pattern issues. The cutters are having a good run, time to turn the page!
  2. My ideal winter would be mid December to the end of February - snow on the ground (not necessarily continuous) for extended periods all three months, with 10 to 15 events of varying sizes including one or more Nor'easters with 12" or more. Any snow outside of that range is always welcome, but that's the time frame in which I enjoy it the most. 2013-14 was pretty much that.
  3. 1.30" of rain so far. Just saw a couple of bugs outside flying - looked like mosquitos but probably not, lol.
  4. Cool - a Miller B moving south along the MA coast, lol. Why not...it would satisfy our hunger for some blocking, yeah.
  5. It could be a setup, but I'm feeling somewhat optimistic looking ahead. Meanwhile it seems the 0z CMC heard Newman for the 4th. Let's see if it's still there after tomorrow, maybe it has legs.
  6. I've been wanting to update my decadal snow chart for PHL, so I can dig that out. Actually I think Ray made a thread regarding that a few years back. Not sure about Chester County but in NW Delco where I grew up it was a tapering off from '68 to '70. 11/30/67, 6"; then around mid-Feb '69, one 10" and one 8"; and Dec. 25 - 26 '69, 11" before it changed to frz. rain. Also had 7" one year in April around opening day for the Phillies ('71?), and it was 70F the next day, lol.
  7. QT in the house! Thanks I was just going to look. Eta, we need someone from Quakertown since RedSky is over in NJ chasing the Monmouth County pot of gold.
  8. I won't mind either, been wearing a jacket outside since sometime in October with the exception of a few days. I can handle 50's for a day or two.
  9. Yeah there have been so many! I think that was a Saturday maybe, that could be why no snow day....but still.
  10. I cut my snow teeth in the early to mid 60's, so the 70's were rough until 77-78. Yes 76-77 was real cold from Thanksgiving to mid February (ice breakers up the Delaware cold), but late January and February of 78 was the return of the bona fide Nor'easter after a painful drought. Like manna from heaven!
  11. 1 minute more of daylight today than at the solstice - anybody notice?
  12. Yes it does! At the end of the run...maybe a trend...(lol)
  13. Hopefully it moves through phase 6 as quickly as shown. Not sure how an amplified phase 7 manifests. Eta: cooler yes, but maybe dry as well?
  14. Maybe, but it doesn't have to be that good, lol. I don't think it handled November 15th correctly, although I could be wrong.
  15. 18Z FV3 looks like another <looking for snow flakes among the raindrops with a snow lamp> for Sunday night (sounds like this past Sunday night). The Icon (yes I know) and the FV3 do at least have some frozen in the area. Right now the Euro for the 4th looks decent, hope it's correct. Lots to sort out, next week should be clearer by this weekend. At least there's some tracking action for next week. Anyone notice how stingy the CMC has been for snow here, since it's upgrade? It used to be a snow hero for digital snow, not any more. Not sure if the week after next will be warm again prior to the big freeze, or a continuation of next week but a little colder. Changes to a more supportive pattern appear to be happening, which is exciting, actual snow will be even more so! By the way the Squirrels dialed the nut consumption way back after mid November, but they appear to be increasing their intake/storage (somewhat) again the last few days.
  16. Merry Christmas to all and to all a snowy January!
  17. So far 1.96" here, currently 58F after a high earlier of 62. Just cloudy now. Never heard thunder here last night but I might have slept through it if there was. Wiggum rule may work for Monday, that would be real nice.
  18. I lost one last winter from not emptying it after some rain...
  19. Storm total so far here is 1.60". 60F outside currently - seems like quite some time since its been this warm.
  20. Let's hope we get the 10 incher early so we can have snow on the ground for the potential weeks of cold and dry!
