    93 was pretty mild through November.December 93 turned colder especially from the 20th on which was perfect timing

    Reminds me of the night John Lennon was killed..It was 60 degrees at midnight with fog and rain..This was December 8th..2 weeks later it was 0 degrees.I remember Nov 13th 1993 it was close to 80 degrees followed by a cold,snowy winter .In weather things always change

    And if was cold today and this week,would that mean we are headed for a snowy winter? Long range forecasting is still a coin flip.2 months from now things could be different.There have been warm falls that lead to cold winters.There have been cold falls that lead to mild winters.

    We don't want snow in October or November.Usually those winters are mild and snowless.Plus you don't want to waste a great pattern when it really can't snow yet on the coast.

    60's was great for snow around Christmas..that's when I grew up so I thought all Christmas's were snowy and white..lol..little did I know.I guess my expectations took a dive the next 50 years

    Shows you how rare pre Christmas,Christmas major snowfalls are rare..we went from Dec 69 to Dec 95 without one

    12 GFS shows below normal,with no 90's maybe a day or 2 in the 80's and the rest in the 60's to low 70's.Haven't seen a September that cool in a while

    So NAO is a big factor.But it is in most winters,Nina or Nino.Nina always seems to be front loaded,probably 75 percent of the time we get a cold December.The warm and snowless strong nina winters bit the dust in a big way in 10-11..From Dec 26th through early February was the most snow cover I ever saw.

    Sept 14th and 21st 1966 we got drenched Especially over 5 inches on the 21st..Were they tropical in origin?.Month in whole was wet and cool,after a hot summer.

    Actually the odds are better for a snowy winter, if your previous summer was hot..Don't forget July 95 and then the upcoming winter..and as you mentioned 66 and 77

    I wouldn't trust seasonal models,they are usually wrong.La Nina winters usually are front ended.Most have chilly falls and cold December's

    5 or fewer 90 degree days might be a record..It would be a year without a Summer 2

    I was 8 years old..it was very hot especially late June and early July. It hit 100 three times..snowy and cold the following winter with a snowstorm Christmas eve..a warm January and snow and cold all Feb and March

    Doesn't La Nina developing Summers usually lead to hot and dry?..ex 83,88,95 ect

    Disappointment?..how many times has their been accumulating snow Christmas eve or Christmas day in our lifetimes?..I can count it on one hand and I'm 61..There were snow showers Christmas eve day too in 1969..I do remember the change to rain in the morning but I think it changed back to a bit of ice that night..All and all one of my favorite Christmas weather days as a kid..69-70 wasn't that bad..very cold January..but I think we had some bad luck and many storms went out to sea

    Best White Christmas was 1966..an actual snowstorm on Christmas eve! Couldn't beat it

    There was a mix of rain and snow at the time of the crash..rainstorm on the 22nd wiped out most of the snowcover on the coast..snow showers Christmas eve

    Summer Place was #1 in March 1960..the Dion song was Where Or When..December 1960 Elvis was # 1 with Are You Lonesome Tonight..there were tons of instrumentals on the chart with Exodus,Wondeland By Night and Last Date
