  1. Thanks! This seems like a great group to talk weather with.
  2. BUF NWS does great forecast discussions. Already love reading them!
  3. Ha! The next door neighbor (half mile down the road) has an Air B&B. I have always wanted to own a Bed and Breakfast. The past couple weekends have been insane with all these city slickers coming up here. I am assured by locals things will quiet down..and then pick up during the winter. The weeks are soooo much quieter than the weekends. The past couple days, the temperature has been awesome. Upper 60s/70 for a high. Went to the Redfield Old Homes Day Parade this evening (picture below). Can tell fall is on the way...hopefully for good after this hot spell this week.
  4. Thanks, TS18! Looking forward to following upstate weather with all of you!
  5. Hey,all! This is "blackrock" posting under my updated profile. I am now officially living in my New home in Redfield! Looking forward to sharing with you all from my new climate. I am already enjoying watching the car thermometer drop about 10 degrees as we make trips from Pulaski or Syracuse to our home up here on the Tug.
  6. Snow north of here, snow south of here, with rain here this weekend....gotta love it...not. Same stupid thing over and over.
  7. Ha! I JUST watched this video yesterday! You can bet on seeing some videos of me doing this...a bit more gracefully than this fellow.
  8. Haha! Yeah, I was referring to Bo. It doesn't get enough snow, and isn't rural enough for him. He seems like a great guy though...he is a young guy with both parents passing away way too young...so he has the freedom to go wherever pretty easily. Fall is actually my favorite season...by far...but snow is my favorite type of weather. The town itself is a bit lower in elevation than much of the rest of "Redfield." From checking out maps, it looks like some years the town and south do better...while other years north does better. Probably depends on predominant wind directions. If there is any type of SW direction in the flow, north does better...and can dump because of fetch and topography.
  9. Definitely! I have already been thinking about it, and planning. She is located in North Redfield, where I will most likely be located between Redfield and North Osceola. Many of their snowfall maps are based off of the very few spotters they have, so it would be awesome to be a part of specifying micro-climates in the Tug region.
  10. Oh, yes. I have looked at those maps over and over and over again...drooling....lol. Orwell to Altmar to Williamstown to Camden look like the outer edge/start of the best snows with it only increasing north and east of that line until the other side of the Tug. If I can end up there...hopefully it will appease my snow fix. There is a dude on our Great Lakes sub-forum who lives up in the snow belt in the UP of Michigan...gets a couple hundred inches of snow a winter with consistent snow depth of 3 to 5 feet...and it still isn't enough for him. Considering I would be doing LOTS of snow cleanup, I think it will be plenty for me.
  11. Getting sort of tired of saying, "There's always next winter." Really, you should consider moving to the Muskoka region. Try and find a job in Huntsville, Bracebridge, or Gravenhurst. Lived there for 2 years, and winter there was WINTER!!!!!!
  12. Sweet! If I were you, I would try and get as far north and east of Altmar as possible. I wish I could be in North Redfield, but it looks like I'll probably be a few minutes directly east of Redfield. North Redfield seems to get plastered harder during certain events...but the "town" of Redfield seems to be in a better location for lake effect snow from different wind directions (like if there is more of a northwesterly component). Seems like it would average out. From doing lots of research, it appears that Redfield "proper" (lol) does best on a direct Westerly wind of a 270 degree flow.
  13. YES to both!!! I am going to compete with Carolyn Yerdon in Redfield on taking snowfall measurements...lol. Even though it is wonderfully rural , Camden (20 minutes away) and Pulaski (25 minutes) have the daily things one might need (a.k.a. ALDI in Pulaski..haha)...and then 2 good sized cities only 45 minutes away (Rome and Watertown), and then 2 larger cities (Utica and Syracuse) an hour away. My wife and I aren't big fans of driving all over the place and running all over (can't stand that about Suburbia), so we are fine with small town living. But, there are actually some nice-sized cities not that far at all....with a pretty major airport less than an hour away. I consider that a win. Thanks! and...YAWN....lol. It would be wonderful for several weeks of the year...but I need all the seasons...well most of them...lol
  14. Ok...so, just to give you guys some perspective. Winter pretty much ended here in West Michigan after the first week of JANUARY. DRY and boring with a couple of several inch rainstorms thrown in there. Three winters in a row. Winter has been much better over there. On that note, my chances of moving to REDFIELD are greatly increasing. Wife and I are looking to go do a final interview in mid-April and will be in the area checking things out. I can't wait! The weather in West Michigan has been BORING the decade I have lived here.
  15. At this rate, maybe we'll see a snowstorm in mid-April that will melt 5 minutes after the sun hits it.......................
  16. Most of my family actually lives in Eastern PA. Parents live in Danville, which is sort of near Williamsport. Redfield is almost exactly 4 hours away from them...which is alright with us.
  17. Man, am I getting envious of all you guys in Upstate New York! We have had absolutely no good winter storms in the Midwest this winter (outside of Detroit..i.e. snowstorm magnet this decade) Small chance I may end up living in Redfield/Osceola area...currently in talks with somebody in those parts.
  18. That's what I thought. I think I recall you guys getting into the 60s a lot last winter as well.
  19. I forget...when did you guys have your first lake effect event last year?
  20. Very interesting, Ohweather! A few other things I noticed from your maps: 1) There is often a Low Pressure located in Easter Canada/Quebec 2) There is often a warm front or stationary front in Montana and the Rockies states 3) There is often a low pressure system located in the Gulf coast area. Very interesting how those commonly show up!
