Missing today, October and one of the February events kind of screwed me here.
47” for the season which is a good 10-12” below normal.
December and February were basically the only months I got snow this year.
That image is a great example of full valley shadowing with dry air punching in. On that radar loop you would think it was snowing or raining good here but just a few drops with brightening sky now.
Yes, easterly flow when surrounded by hills is not ideal. Elevation really helped. My friend out at Berkshire East said they only had a sloppy inch or two at the base which is at about 600’ meanwhile places in Plainfield and Rowe had 5-7” at 1000’.
That might be it. There is a Ridgeline no more than a half mile behind my backyard that rises up several hundred feet.
IIRC the same thing happened in the October storm where it was snowing almost everywhere except for Greenfield and Turners Falls.
It's weird, it's snowing in Amherst for Christ sake and that is like the valley floor! I wonder if there is a weird warm layer trapped between 500'-1000' in the narrow valley between Greenfield and Deerfield?
Nice.
I'm sitting under 30dbz returns right now and can't get it to flip. Temp is actually down 2 degrees 34/33 RA with occasional wet flakes. I may not even get a trace imby.
About 4” of snow at 1200’ in Leyden maybe slushy 1” at 1200’ in Colrain. Fascinating stuff. Longitude FTW.
I need a dashboard mount for my camera so I can take driving videos!
Just took a nice drive. It is dumping snow a mile from my house. The rain snow elevation cut off is dramatic. Just below 700’ it flips from heavy snow to moderate rain as it goes from 35° to 36°. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a dramatic cut off.
I’m in Turners Falls, right now, literally next to the River at 100’ elevation and it’s snowing. Not sure why Greenfield is all rain. Even the hills just west of Greenfield are wet not white.
Maybe shadowing?
It was pouring rain earlier at 34/32 and just couldn’t get it to flip. Wet flakes mixed in now.
i’ll take a ride up into the hills later. Seems like NE of here better than W of here.
This reminds me of the October storm. Snowing to my N, S, E & W. There’s snow falling and accumulating 2 miles from my house at 700’.
Pouring, close to 2” of liquid now. 35/32
