  1. Yea, a little too interesting; how about nice 6 or 7 inch snowstorm instead. We will see what happens...definitely a middle of the night alarm clock will be set to get up and check the weather.
  2. I remember attempting to sleep through Opal; that was a lost cause. Recall hearing the wind gusts approaching like a freight train. Wife and I sat on the porch and watched the trees whip back and forth during Ivan.
  3. Once again getting rain well out ahead of the main event. Just took the leaf blower to my very steep and potentially slick driveway; trying to beat the rain but ended up doing half of it while getting rained on. Was not expecting it this early. Probably not getting much sleep tonight.
  4. Given the current NHC track I was concerned about the wind around here. We would have had a chance to actually get a bit of a dry spell this Fall if it were not for the tropics; at least it keeps fire season in check. Those poor folks on the Gulf coast have been hammered; at least this one will be a little east of the last two in the region.
  5. I know it isn't popular in these parts but especially after staying winter until mid-May I don't mind this bit of Indian summer. This Fall has been great compared to the scorch fest last year!
  6. Thanks for sharing the photos; absolutely perfect weather to be checking out the leaves.
  7. Same IMBY; it is glorious to have a stretch of cool, DRY, sunny weather; enjoy it everyone! Plan to get out for some camping in the near future.
  8. Wow that is a bit chilly, sun came out down here in the low lands of the French Broad valley; made it to 68 F IMBY. Very nice day and glad not to be in the roaster like last year.
  9. Only about 0.7 inches IMBY so far...
  10. If we can get past Sally, I did like seeing this in the GSP forecast discussion: The payoff from this late week unpleasantness will be our first taste of fall over the weekend into early next week, when sprawling cool/dry high pressure is forecast to overspread the East. Forecast temps and dewpoints for Sat-Mon are more typical of mid-October than mid-September.
  11. Love this weather! Hope everyone is enjoying it on this holiday weekend and for tomorrow, happy Labor Day folks!
  12. The Laura forecast track is inching back in our direction; don't want any part of it.
  13. GFS has it going right over us; last thing we need is tropical rain since it already seems we live in a tropical rainforest and I'm not even in Transylvania County.
  14. Let's hope this September isn't a roaster like last year.
  15. I can't get the bear poop in my yard to dry out so I can remove it
  16. I went out on the back forty about 4 am Wednesday morning and saw over 20 meteors which was nice; sorry you missed the show. I plan to hit the slopes this winter; per usual I try to go at the least crowded times possible (early and late season) so social distancing should not be much of a problem. Always nice to think about skiing instead of how hot it has been at times. Looking forward to some cooler weather Yes Met1985, a rainy day; just started pouring at the house while I was writing this.
  17. Got over 2 inches of rain in about 30 minutes this evening and a flooded basement.
  18. Maybe try growing rice in the garden next year?
  19. Even though MBY went through a dry stretch there were still storms in the area. Sans just a few days, there has been at least the threat of rain everyday throughout the entire summer.
  20. Holy cow, I had no idea there were storms in the area until I looked at the radar at about 10:30 am (I took the pictures at 6:51 am). The power of storms is always fascinating to see but the damage sucks. Have since had some light rain here but nothing like what you had.
  21. Was nice to finally get a tiny bit of rain yesterday which contributed to the inversion valley fog this morning. Attached a few pictures from a sunrise bicycle ride on the Parkway this morning:
  22. Same here, had lightning within 1/4 mile of the house but no more than a few drops of rain.
  23. Looking at the GFS it appears the next cool down is courtesy of air getting funneled down here from Hudson Bay, unbelievable on the ways air from the north ends up IMBY this spring.
