  1. Don't let the 'open' spots on the radar to your south fool you. I LOVE when radar shows nada and it is raining/snowing to beat the band. According to Blacksburg's radar it stopped raining here about 9 am, funny thing is, since then I've added 0.10 of 'nothing' to the gauge. Still a light rain falling at 11:25 am....
  2. I'll agree with the above from @Bob Chill. Snowshoe is a wonderful place, but mostly remote. You have basically everything you'll need on the mountain or just down the road at the bottom, then... nothing lol. You have to drive to Elkins (about 50 miles) or Lewisburg (about 65 miles) to get to what most folks call civilization. Course Marlinton is 25 miles away, and there is stuff there (fast food/shopping) but not a lot. That said, there are still plenty of things to do all seasons there. Golf is right there, hiking and biking galore, and other fun stuff is within 15-20 miles. Cass RR and the Observatory are within 20 minutes, but not sure how often you'd want that lol.
  3. Set a new daily rainfall record with 1.08 inches, old mark was 0.61 from 2012. I'd MUCH rather have that weather, if I remember right that was a mix of snow/sleet/rain that changed over a few times and ended up with about 2 inches on the ground. Temp stayed stuck at 45 thru afternoon yesterday, then around dark started a slow climb to a 50.7 high around 3 am. Still raining and currently 49.6/48.8 out there.
  4. Same for Lowes and Walmart. Went to both today looking for deals on lights for next year, 98% already picked thru or gone, and gardening stuff was rapidly being pushed into the empty shelves that held Christmas stuff just a day or two ago.
  5. Definitely an 'orographic' look to that with E to SE winds....
  6. Had 0.45 in the gauge at 7 am report. Glancing now looks like another 1/3 inch since. Temp has been hovering between 44 and 45 all morning. Currently rain and fog, 44.7/44.0 and about 3/4 mile visibility. Fun 'event' for the morning was a bald eagle flew in and landed on a tree less than 75 feet from the house. We watched it sit there and survey the area then fly off after about 10 minutes. This is the second time in less than a month I've had bald eagles on the property!
  7. Well, nothing like a few lightning flashes and rumbles of thunder to finish off the Christmas Day lol. Currently 47.0/46.1 and rain with an occasional above mentioned.
  8. If you've been here long enough to read year old posts, then you know creating an account just to pick/troll a member is a great way to get a special Christmas gift where you're back to just reading only again.
  9. Wouldn't be a TV/radio station would it??
  10. WOW! I'm waiting to hear the fog horns going off in the distance and I'm 100's of miles from navigable waters lol! VERY foggy out there this am, only white for Christmas we are getting it appears. MAYBE 50 yards visibility if you strain your eyes a bit, be safe out there if you are traveling this morning. Merry Christmas to all!
  11. Wishing all in here a very Merry Christmas!
  12. Not sure what the forecast vs actuals have been up that way, but NWS has busted high 4-8 degrees most of the week here.
  13. LOL. Glad you explained that, my thought was 'almost 16" of snow and a -3.5 temp dif is a low bar'?? EDIT, those were MY numbers.
  14. 21 degrees on the nose here this morning with clear skies. Yesterday topped out at 44.1 degrees.
  15. Low was 17.2 here this morning. Currently 17.5/14.2.
  16. Ah! THIS is so much better! Feels like winters of past. Had several rounds of flurries, snow showers and even a squall move thru yesterday late afternoon and evening. The old classic snow/melt/snow/melt.... anyway, deepest accumulation was only 0.3 inches around 10 pm. Had 0.2 with the first (and heaviest) burst around 5 pm that melted away 30 minutes later. 75% of it is gone/blown away/sublimated/evaporated with the wind and whatnot with corners having a good 1/2 inch and others bare, but I'll take it Currently 26.5/16.6 with a WNW wind at 7 gusting to 26 mph under cloudy skies with a flurry or two streaking by in the wind.
  17. Officially on the board (literally, lol)! 12/19 0.3
  18. Yep, THAT is one way to make sure hubby (and the rest of us) doesn't forget the date!
  19. Well, that was a fun 15 minutes lol. Looks like a chance of another one or two later per radar. I got 0.2 on a measurement just as it stopped, on the board!!
  20. Wow, just like that, down to 34.9/28.3.....
  21. Skies just opened up here, pouring snow. Everything but the roads white immediately. 37.8/28.4 Not sure how long it will last, but looks super right now.
  22. Only 0.41 when I dumped the CoCoRaHS this morning. SHARP cutoff from I-81 west on the rain totals. But the WIND is roaring lol. Stuck at 40-42 all day and night until around 1 am, then it spiked to a 47 high before starting to fall and the winds began to crank. 'Shoe and Canaan have already went to snow, along with the Rt 250 camera in Highland Co. Currently 39.9/34.3 and falling with a NW wind at 14 gusting to 27 mph. MAYBE the flakes make it here later???
