  1. Kitz, are you of the Methuselah age like me, and remember Gordon?
  2. Gordon Barnes was a TV met on Channel 2 in NY, and News Radio 88, back in the 60s into the mid-70s. At least once per winter, his morning radio discussion would be about the weak sauce storm coming out of the TN Valley, and maybe we would get an inch or so. Then in his afternoon update, he would tell us the storm is exploding off the Delmarva "like dropping dry ice in a Martini". His forecast would then call for 4-8 in the city and CT (meaning lower Fairfield County), 2-4 north and west, with 8-12 over central Jersey and eastern LI. I really miss those wild surprises. At the risk of sounding like the Unabomber, I prefer the pre-technology days when it comes to weather.
  3. Saturday is gonna go full Gordon Barnes on us southern folk. Just sayin...
  4. If anyone here grew up in the Tri-State area in the 60s, they will remember channel 2 and News Radio 88 meteorologist Gordon Barnes. Saturday has Gordon Barnes "dry ice in a martini" written all over it. Those were storms that came from the TN Valley and popped off the Delmarva. I used to love those storms. 4-6" with an hour of warning.
  5. Yes, you have earned the privilege of starting the next storm thread, lol....let's just hope that's not December!
  6. The composite radar makes it look like the low is over DE, but lowest pressure at the surface is far to the southeast of that. Am I seeing the 700 level on the radar?
  7. Did you create this? If so, you might need more sunscreen, or maybe a broad rimmed hat when you step out.
  8. I have to wonder about the boundary layer temperatures forecasted by the models. If it is pounding precip, -6c at 850, with steep lapse rates, NNE surface wind, I don't see how it is not solidly below 32f . Then again, the models process all of this better than I do....so we'll see.
  9. Just checking in for the first time since this morning. I am sure this has been much discussed, but when do we ever see the mesos colder and further to the right than the globals? Reggie, Reggie, Reggie!
  10. Actually a good post! Not just a shot of an unfavorable map, but some solid reasoning. Keep doing that, please.
