Yo!! Anyone awake over here in Ohio? Or are you all just quarantining?
-
I can't say that I've ever seen a temperature forecast map like that.

November 30-December 2 *Potential* Winter Storm

NWS offices are very strict in meeting the criteria for issuing a blizzard warning. I feel that is a good thing, unlike their Special Weather Statements, which they throw out like candy during a parade. -

If that fetch plays out, you'll get in on the good stuff. It's been a few years since I've seen streamers all the way to CVG. I remember some LES from Lake Michigan hitting DAY a couple of years ago. -

The kiss of death. -
It's not normal yet. Buckeye hasn't made an appearance.

I found out a long time ago that pulling back on the reins usually doesn't work once wagons head west. Chicagoland's gonna lasso another one. Seriously, don't get too excited down in Indy yet, but Hoosier's right, there's a chance. In the meantime, you might get to enjoy some boomers tomorrow.

The Euro has the surface low doing the sit-n-spin over the Great Lakes for over 48 hrs. lol
-
Ohio posters are kind of jaded, as they've had Lucy jerk the ball back too many times to be excited.

The grass still has a coating of sleet from early this morning. It then switched to light rain for most of the morning and I finally got to see some flakes as it flipped around noon before the tap turned off.

"The company (Regeneron) said it expects to have does of REGEN-COV2 treatment ready for about 80,000 patients by the end of this month, about 200,000 patients by the first week of January and approximately 300,000 patients in total by the end of January." Also: "The FDA said the antibodies are not authorized for patients who are hospitalized due to COVID-19 or require oxygen therapy due to COVID-19." https://www.newsnationnow.com/health/coronavirus/vaccine/fda-grants-emergency-use-authorization-to-regeneron-covid-19-antibody-given-to-trump/ So the treatment is for patients who are positive and a high risk for developing severe symptoms or have a high viral load.

My first measurable snowfall of the winter is 0.3" of sleet. It must be 2020.

This economy vs. health has been debated ad nauseam. No one here is going to change anyone else's mind. A lockdown will be the death knell for thousands of businesses, since there is no government support. It would also drive millions into bankruptcy. The problem that with nothing being done other than "mandates" and a vaccine being several months away, many of these businesses will go under anyway, as customer traffic will be reduced due to people not venturing out with the threat of infection. As these businesses close, unemployment will once again increase. So, until Congress gets off of their duffs and passes some financial assistance legislation, we will be stuck with the choice of a slow agonizing spiral into depression or a quick economic dagger. As I see it, those are our choices for now.

I don't know where you moved from, but if you're near I -70 and hoping for a parade of storms.... Only half kidding. Welcome to the subforum and around here is the land of the rain/snow line.

C'mon guys. Knock it off. The field hospital thing was mismanaged AND NYC hospitals were overwhelmed, which I believe was the original point being made.

Then there's the NAM with a 6" bullseye right over my house.

IWX is liking a stripe of up to 2" across Northern IN early Sunday. I could see my first accumulating snow of the season.

Wow, I left for a few hours and come back to this s**t show. While all of you are busy bickering, name-calling, and pointing fingers, I got a call from an official today asking how many body bags I can get my hands on.

If it stays consistent for a couple more runs, I'll bite.

You put it correctly, as in a big IF. Right now without federal government assistance, state and local authorities are reluctant to push for restrictions that would strongly affect the economy, so not much is going to change there. Also, it is obvious that there is a large portion of the population that aren't taking universal precautions for a number of reasons and not much is going to change there either until the horrors of the disease personally affects them.
-
The infectious disease specialist at our local hospital told staff earlier this week that if the public doesn't begin doing a better job of taking precautions soon, the cases will begin to double every week. Sounds like a little bit of a stretch.Thoughts?

Yes! My first fantasy 6 incher of the year.

Where is Congress is the ultimate question? They're playing political games while the whole country suffers. Trump actually (at least publicly) asked for Congress to write up a relief package. His problem is that he has lost any political clout he had with Republicans in the Senate, while they cat fight with Pelosi. Not that a relief package would fix the pandemic, but it would sure as hell make it easier for people to shelter-in-place and keep some small businesses open.

Concerning an earlier discussion about the logistics of moving quantities of the vaccine at -95°, I spoke with the local health department today and it is going to be a problem, as there is already a shortage of dry ice. Also, their latest projections are for the Pfizer vaccines to be available to healthcare workers by late December and long-term care facilities either then or shortly after. Locally, these will be administered by local hospitals, IF they can get resources needed to keep the vaccine at the needed temperature. Hopes are that the Moderna vaccine will be approved and it will be made available to the general population after the front line workers and high risk are inoculated. After that occurs, local health departments (at least in this area) will set up points of distribution for mass inoculations, based on availability. Very detailed plans are already being put together for this event. All of that being said, it is being planned with the anticipation that the vaccines will be approved for release and that no hiccups occur. EDIT: Oh, and I spoke with the local hospital's safety director and all of this regional hospital's facilities are basically full. There are still ICU beds available, but the general population beds are packed.
