I just spent a couple of days in Porter and LaPorte County. Seemed awfully dry in that area and it's not even showing as abnormally dry. After driving the area today, I'm betting on a large chunk of northeast IN being in D1. As you said, sunny and 90° for the next several days should see our area likely being in D2 conditions by late next week.

With our June 10th storm, our EMA Facebook page lit up with people wondering what the low roar was that they heard as the storm approached. It was a localized event in a small town (Andrews, IN). While doing damage assessments, several residents also commented on it and asked if it was a tornado due to the roar. I've only heard it a couple of times in my life from straight-line winds. Eerie stuff.

Wow. That's gotta be rough.

We've had 2 in the past 7 days and 4 in the past 3 1/2 weeks.

We got dumped on this afternoon. I caught 2.21" in 45 minutes, approaching 2.5" for the day. Street flooding galore. A buddy said his weather station recorded a 5.17" rainfall rate at the peak of the storm.

Thanks!

Jack, I'm glad to see that you are recovering. I was really concerned when you quit posting, I just knew something was terribly wrong. What a horrible nightmare for you. Your story should be told to every anti-masker. As you said, you really don't deserve what happened to you. Prayers for a full recovery.

I know that this is not a political thread, but alarms should be raised with the White House's order that the Corona data sent by hospitals go to them rather than the CDC. Months before an election and a political entity is trying direct the conversation. Just wow. How transparent is this ploy? How are Americans supposed to be honestly informed if the narrative is controlled by a politician.? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/14/us/politics/trump-cdc-coronavirus.html?campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20200715&instance_id=20323&nl=the-morning®i_id=132190987&segment_id=33439&te=1&user_id=6c0c6198ea2aad1257a6d55b6ad8e814 Sorry for the political rant. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Yep, we're toast here. We've had over and inch and a half in the past 24 hrs and expecting more storms off and on through the end of the week. Dry ground feedback cancel.

We had a storm drop a microburst right over I 69 that flipped a semi tanker and took down some trees and interstate signs. The tanker was hauling glycerin, which didn't spill, although if it did, the firefighters on scene could have moisturized their hands.

Congratulations on your retirement, but do people in your profession really ever retire? I'm glad that you have the opportunity to be close to your family.

I'm already seeing some pissed off cumulus this morning, with other storms already formed along the old boundary in Indiana. They are nearly stationary and someone is going to get dumped on while most just bake. Gotta love midsummer Midwest weather.

All of this talk about politics and economy. Here is the real bottom line: People Wear your mask I'll just leave these right here. Source: Johns Hopkins University

Spring/Summer 2020 Medium & Long Range Discussion
IWXwx replied to Geoboy645's topic in Lakes/Ohio Valley
That's something you don't see every day. -
Yes, although it is only at the Optum testing sites and it is free even though they are a private company. There are 83 Optum sites throughout the state. However, the other 116 hospital-run sites still have stipulations such as health-care worker, symptomatic, etc. From the ISDH website, "Anyone who lives or works in Indiana can be tested at an Optum site."
-
Testing being open for anyone who wants it beginning last week is probably the reason for the high number of tests. My wife got one Wednesday and got the results back on Friday (negative).

I was planning on posting about this when I got home tonight, but you beat me to it. I look at the Army Corp of Engineers Louisville District lake reports daily. These are the lakes formed by the dams that protect the Ohio River basin in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. Normally, somewhere in the basin at this time of year, some of the flood control reservoirs are above summer pool due to spring rains. Right now all 20 lakes are at or below summer pool. This is an indication of abnormally dry conditions. It is unusual to have them all that that level this early in the summer. The last time I remember it occurring this early was 2012.

I finally got the answer for Allen Co. Indiana's spike. There is a large Burmese presence and it it is spreading rapidly among that population.

I attended a NOAA webinar a couple of weeks ago about the proposed changes. They are just going to put out statements such as, "2-4 inches of snow is expected overnight." I had to laugh because then Elliot Jacks of NOAA then said, "But we don't want to call them statements either. We don't want to put a name on them." What the hell are they if they aren't statements? I know that you can say they are just a forecast, but they are stating what's expected, so what's wrong with calling it a statement? BTW, I don't mind advisories, but the public is sometimes easily confused by NWS products and if it can slow the confusion, go for it.

I can't answer that. Having many friends there and living only 20 miles away, I try to keep up on what's happening, but can offer no explanation, although I'll do some research. BTW, I have another friend who has contracted it that is (was) a healthy female in her 40's, although she manages a busy doctor's office in Fort Wayne. She is hospitalized and very ill.

I finally got to check in. It looks like there was widespread wind damage. This ol' boy's tired from helping the town of Andrews clean up from 70+ MPH winds (was storm spotting there when it hit), then spent the evening helping fight a house fire. Pics later. Good night.

Yep.QLCS is looking likely. The storms near Bunker HIll and Russiaville in IN are already starting to spin. I may not be back on here for awhile. Getting ready to head out.

Down in our area, the NAM insists on a linear threat, while several runs of the HRRR wants to spit out some discrete cells forming around FWA and moving into Northwest Ohio before going linear around TOL. It will be interesting to see what verifies.
