I flew in from LAX that afternoon and took me about 5 hours to get home to Concord MA. I was picked up by a car service and the driver tried to go thru Cambridge. It was absolute gridlock. Ended up taking the guy to dinner in Porter Square. After dinner we proceeded up Mass Ave towards Arlington. I remember we sat for what seemed an hour trying to get across rt. 16. All time worse.

Wow, I tried to skate this afternoon at a shallow pond in Concord MA and ice was definitely too thin. I was surprised actually that it wasn't thicker. I did see Wellesley conservation commission post a warning on twitter not to skate accompanied by a person skating at what was identified as a local shallow pond!

Climbed Cardigan this morning /afternoon. Driving up 93 was surprised not to see really any snow until exit 18, Northfield. Built pretty quickly after exit 20, Laconia. Two feet of snow on higher elevations of mountain. Driving back towards Newfound Lake, I was looking up at the ridge for wxeyenh's house!

I really like Bromley. It's a mid-size mountain without any terrain that I can think of that makes you pause for a moment but has a good amount of variety - generously spaced trees, wide boulevards and narrow, windy trails. I ski there once every couple of years and always enjoy. Their snowmaking is pretty good too. And I should add, the people - customers and employees - all seem real nice.

Mid-week at WaWa is fine as long as your visit does not coincide with February vacation or a weekend. I've never skied there but Butternut Ski area out in Great Barrington has always intrigued me.

Bracket Basin opening at Sugarloaf is silly...in a good way!

Specific to BW, right now they only have 17 trails officially open. I had an expiring comp ticket there last winter which I had use by mid-Dec, went up on a day when they received 18" - had a blast once I was lucky to meet a local who took me around to closed parts of the mountain - which nobody seemed to mind we were skiing btw - but the lift layout was a limiting factor. Someone on another board mentioned that BW seems limited at moment my lack of staff. NH hardcore skiers are going to head to either Cannon or Wildcat anyway. You're living in the winter wonderland at moment...why couldn't every November be like this!

Seems like Franconia and Crawford Notch got off to late starts and haven't performed as well as Pinkham based upon your report and Cannon and Wildcat's snow reports. Hope it snows all night!

The ski areas call it "stoke!" As a skier, I'll be visiting Wildcat, Sugarloaf and MRG webcams all day from my desk in metrowest Boston.

Long ago we stopped trying to figure out if it’s justified, so there’s not much calculation that goes into it. Wolf Creek - Colorado - will open this week on natural snow. Skied two days there a few years back. It is a non-resort - essentially the area runs for about a mile plus along a ridge on the continental divide. Leads Colorado in terms of snowfall most years. Great terrain, essentially tree skiing throughout the entire area.

Pack expecting the worse. I've gotten caught up there without proper gear when the weather hasn't quite turned out as forecast.

Hitman - do you ski bumps with a 108? And how do they perform on spring snow? I've demoed a couple of fat skis and they seemed fun but definitely skied differently IIRC.

for an east coast skier, unless you have $$ to throw around - a mid-90's underfoot is the best value, ie Bonafide/Enforcer. I really like my 93-94mm (can't remember) Enforcers.

Nice little town. Former railroad town that runs a train to the south rim. Nice for kids. Done that with my son - a member here - who was a big rail fan in his younger days. It's amazing how the high elevation of AZ remains cool in summer and cold in summer. Have friends in PHX who nordic ski regularly in the area. Very pretty. Drive up from Sedona to Flagstaff via 89a is very pretty.

Fly home from Norway tomorrow nite. Have not been at lake since Memorial Day, happy to know water will be mid-summer.

Just amazing. Admit it...you wish the lifts were still running at the mountain!

18-19" in Concord MA. Definitely will see some localized higher amounts reports. Two measurements - around 2PM and then an hour or so ago. Local school district is making an announcement of either 2 hour delay or no school at 4:30AM.

back from walk with dog - an additional 5-6" in 2.5 hours out on my driveway - in Concord. That would bring me to 14-15" storm total which seems a little low from what others are reporting locally. heavy snow at moment.

Just went out and shovelled the driveway, stuck ruler in several spots shielded from wind and found consistent 8.5-9". Moderate heavy snow falling. Would be nice to get to 18" - that's my criteria for a memorable storm! Snow is relatively light. There is a good inch of melt slush at bottom of pack. Local weather station reading 28 with max gust of 28 out of north...I'd say a pretty consistent 10-15 mph out of north.
