  1. Well if you just look at Boston and metro west, 1993-94 was a major all timer. Certainly in my top 3 experienced as is 2014-15 and probably 1960-61. 1995-96 goes to #4 due to the spectacular melts-lasting for weeks.
  2. This. Also I want to add that rural living people have worse health outcomes primarily due to the lack of access to care. It is much more common for doctors to stay in the city or suburbs. So while rural living may be healthier in many ways, people have less access to healthy food, poorer internet connectivity, poor access to doctors. This country needs to prioritize equalizing broadband for everyone-it is a necessity. We also should be giving incentives for medical providers to care for rural based patients. Honestly whenever I think of moving seriously rural I run into the conundrum of how to care for my wife and I as we get older and older. So we stay put.
  3. I turned 64 ahead of a great winter stretch. Time flies. I thought having more free time in semi retirement would slow it down but it feels like it’s speeding up!
  4. It’s somewhat quacky. I’ve come to realize that the main driver of longevity is luck. But I had an old friend nearing 100 in good shape who always said that people with a sunny disposition who can manage the inevitable crises of life live longer. Attia makes some good points but a lot of it is just common sense. I’m 78 and fine and frankly convinced that it’s mainly due to luck plus privilege plus the determination to ignore people’s advice and power through aches and pains. Prioritize strength training, walking at least 5 miles per day, omnivore eating, and fiber. I’ve prioritized fiber now for 50 years based on readings when I was in my late 20s. The worst is processed foods and sugar. Also statins for many of us are wonder drugs.
  5. Through 12/16: BOS: -2.1 ORH: -1.7 PVD: -3.0 BDL: -0.6 * The takeaway is the cold didn’t make the month snowy. Some got snow on weird ways but the biggest qpf events were rain.
  6. For the record George is not the same as he was a few years ago. He’s educated himself and has become a knowledgeable poster.
  7. Euro almost always overdoes long range cold. The only exception in my memory is the extreme cold that gave BOS its coldest reading in 65 years in February 2023. Euro nailed that from a week or more out.
  8. Ok I'm going to say it even though it irks me that people use this expression. "They deserve it"
