    Incidentally as long as we’re talking other seasons 77-78 was stormy in the west..LA had something like 32 inches of rain (normal annual is 14). I also recall some cold spells. RNA or the never ending Pineapple Express?

    I know. But reading your post it seemed like outside of the Olympics it doesn’t snow much. Seattle isn’t on the ocean either but the flow goes through the pass and San Juan islands down into Puget Sound. But the way I read your post WA otherwise doesn’t get much snow outside of the Olympics. It seems like you were confining the area to the Olympic peninsula and coastal plain areas west of the cascades?

    December is preferable but March is more likely. And once snow chances end here we have to endure spring. I’m planning to escape to warmth for a week or 2 in March

    Paradise Ranger Station (which I visited in June 1990) begs to differ. To thnk the Cascades don’t get too much snow is to not know the area at all.

    It’s impressive but it far from unprecedented. Remember you have many stations >7k in elevation in the west. Mammoth Mtn had a 31 foot base by late winter 1977-78. Oh and sne did quite well at the same time. Signature 20th century blizzard for Boston to providence.

    Nice cold long walk with temperature of 20 tonight. I see BOS came in with 23 at midnight with room to drop. Feel of winter. Normal for a few weeks from now.

    That was a longitude event. I lived a few blocks from wxniss and we met for a walk while it was pounding. After about 45 minutes it was pouring rain but the event got rescued as we went back to snow 2 hours later. I think my current location got around 8 inches.

    And my recollection is January had periods of major torching but February and March redeemed that winter big time. Either way-looking more and more like I’ll spend some time in key west late winter-probably early to mid March.

    Tick tick. Decent snow for many during the day on the front end. Pike region looks good. You can see the nao keeping that press going so the trend is good.
